Photochemistry of the H2O/CO System Revisited : The HXeOH···CO Complex in a Xenon Matrix

2017

We report on the complex of a noble-gas hydride HXeOH with carbon monoxide. This species is prepared via the annealing-induced H + Xe + OH···CO reaction in a xenon matrix, the OH···CO complexes being produced by VUV photolysis of the H2O···CO complexes. The H–Xe stretching mode of the HXeOH···CO complex absorbs at 1590.3 cm–1 and it is blue-shifted by 12.7 cm–1 from the H–Xe stretching band of HXeOH monomer. The observed blue shift indicates the stabilization of the H–Xe bond upon complexation, which is characteristic of complexes of noble-gas hydrides. The HXeOH···CO species is the first complex of a noble-gas hydride with carbon monoxide and the second observed complex of HXeOH. On the ba…

Rhodium catalyzed oxidative coupling of salicylaldehydes with diazabicyclic olefins: a one pot strategy involving aldehyde C–H cleavage and π-allyl c…

2013

An efficient one pot strategy for the synthesis of cyclopentene fused chromanone derivatives through the direct oxidative coupling of salicylaldehydes with bicyclic olefins in the presence of a rhodium-copper catalyst system is described. This is the first report on the ring opening-ring closing of bicyclic hydrazines via metal catalyzed oxidative coupling reaction.

Nickel as a Lewis Base in a T‐Shaped Nickel(0) Germylene Complex Incorporating a Flexible Bis(NHC) Ligand

2018

Flexible, chelating bis(NHC) ligand 2, able to accommodate both cis- and trans-coordination modes, was used to synthesize (2)Ni(η 2 -cod), 3. In reaction with GeCl2, this produced (2)NiGeCl2, 4, featuring a T-shaped Ni(0) and a pyramidal Ge center. Complex 4 could also be prepared from [(2)GeCl]Cl, 5, and Ni(cod)2, in a reaction that formally involved Ni-Ge transmetalation, followed by coordination of the extruded GeCl2 moiety to Ni. A computational analysis showed that 4 possesses considerable multiconfigurational character and the Ni→Ge bond is formed through σ-donation from the Ni 4s, 4p, and 3d orbitals to Ge. (NHC)2Ni(cod) complexes 9 and 10, as well as (NHC)2GeCl2 derivative 11, incor…

Homoleptic Pnictogen-Chalcogen Coordination Complexes

2012

The synthesis and structural characterization of dicationic selenium and tellurium analogues of the carbodiphosphorane and triphosphenium families of compounds are reported. These complexes, [Ch(dppe)][OTf](2) [Ch = Se, Te; dppe = 1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane; OTf = trifluoromethanesulfonate], are formed using [Ch](2+) reagents via a ligand-exchange protocol and represent extremely rare examples of homoleptic pnictogen → chalcogen coordination complexes. The corresponding arsenic compounds were also prepared, [Ch(dpAse)][OTf](2) [Ch = Se, Te; dpAse = 1,2-bis(diphenylarsino)ethane], exhibiting the first instance of an arsenic → chalcogen dative bond. The electronic structures of these un…

Imidotungsten(VI) complexes with chelating phenols as ROMP catalysts

2011

Abstract Tungsten(VI) complexes of the type [W(NPh)Cl3(L)] (L = chelating phenolate) were studied as catalyst precursors for ROMP of 2-norbornene, dicyclopentadiene and 5-vinyl-2-norbornene. These compounds form active catalysts when treated by ethyl magnesium bromide. Moreover, polymerisations can be run under ambient atmosphere without complicated inert atmosphere techniques. Synthesis and crystal structure of a new precursor complex [W(NPh)Cl3(LS)] (LS = 2,4-di-tert-butyl-6-(phenylthiomethyl)phenolate) are also described.

Orientation-Dependent Handedness of Chiral Plasmons on Nanosphere Dimers: How to Turn a Right Hand into a Left Hand

2016

Optical activity, which is used as a discriminator of chiral enantiomers, is demonstrated to be orientation dependent on individual, and nominally achiral, plasmonic nanosphere dimers. Through measurements of their giant Raman optical activity, we demonstrate that L/R-handed enantiomers can be continuously turned into their R/L-handed mirror images without passing through an achiral state. The primitive uniaxial multipolar response, with demonstrable broken parity and time reversal symmetry, reproduces the observations as resonant Raman scattering on plasmons that carry angular momentum. The analysis underscores that chirality does not have a quantitative continuous measure and recognizes t…

Organocatalytic Domino Oxa-Michael/1,6-Addition Reactions: Asymmetric Synthesis of Chromans Bearing Oxindole Scaffolds.

2016

An asymmetric organocatalytic domino oxa-Michael/1,6-addition reaction of ortho-hydroxyphenyl-substituted para-quinone methides and isatin-derived enoates has been developed. In the presence of 5 mol % of a bifunctional thiourea organocatalyst, this scalable domino reaction affords 4-phenyl-substituted chromans bearing spiro-connected oxindole scaffolds and three adjacent stereogenic centers in good to excellent yields (up to 98 %) and with very high stereoselectivities (up to >20:1 d.r., >99 % ee).

First Chemosensor for Selective Detection and Quantification of L-4-Hydroxyproline in Collagen and Other Bio Samples.

2017

Amino pyridine-based rhodamine conjugate (APR) has been developed as a first chemosensor for selective detection and quantification of L-4-Hydroxyproline (Hyp). The “turn-on” fluorescence property of the chemosensor makes it unique for easy estimation of Hyp in collagen and biological samples. peerReviewed

Iron (II) isothiocyanate complexes with substituted pyrazines: Experimental and theoretical views on their electronic structure

2015

Abstract Synthesis, structural, magnetic, Mossbauer and thermal studies of isothiocyanate iron (II) complexes with substituted pyrazines (iodo-, bromo- and amino-derivatives) are discussed here. Complexes with iodo- and bromo-derivatives were found to have the composition [Fe(Ipz)2(SCN)2(H2O)2]·2Ipz (1) and [Fe(Brpz)2(SCN)2(H2O)2]·2Brpz (2), whereas in the case of amino-functionalized pyrazine the formation of [Fe(NH2pz)4(SCN)2] (3) was observed. 3D organization of the molecular complexes is stabilized within different hydrogen, halogen and lone pair–π interactions. Spin state of iron (II) ions in 1–3 was determined as high spin by Mossbauer and magnetic measurements. DFT calculations for t…

Alkylsilyl compounds as enablers of atomic layer deposition: analysis of (Et3Si)3As through the GaAs process

2016

A new chemistry has been developed to deposit GaAs, the quintessential compound semiconductor. The ALD process is based on a dechlorosilylation reaction between GaCl3 and (Et3Si)3As. Characteristic ALD growth was demonstrated, indicating good applicability of the alkylsilyl arsenide precursor. ALD of GaAs produced uniform, amorphous and stoichiometric films with low impurity content. This was done with saturating growth rates and an easily controlled film thickness. Crystallization was achieved by annealing. Even though the growth rate strongly decreased with increasing deposition temperature, good quality film growth was demonstrated at 175 to 200 °C, indicating the presence of an ALD wind…
