Mean sets for building 3D probabilistic liver atlas from perfusion MR images

This paper is concerned with liver atlas construction. One of the most important issues in the framework of computational abdominal anatomy is to define an atlas that provides a priori information for common medical task such as registration and segmentation. Unlike other approaches already proposed so far (to our knowledge), in this paper we propose to use the concept of random compact mean set to build probabilistic liver atlases. Neural architectures may offer an adequate way to deal with early vision since they are able to learn shape features or classify unknown shapes, generalising the features of a few meaningful examples, with a low computational cost after the training phase. PTNet: A parameterizable data center network

This paper presents PTNet, a new data center topology that is specifically designed to offer a high and parameterized scalability with just one layer architecture. Furthermore, despite its high scalability, PTNet grants a reduced latency and a high performance in terms of capacity and fault tolerance. Consequently, compared to widely known data center networks, our new topology shows better capacity, robustness, cost-effectiveness and less power consumption. Image Recognition through Incremental Discriminative Common Vectors

An incremental approach to the discriminative common vector (DCV) method for image recognition is presented. Two different but equivalent ways of computing both common vectors and corresponding subspace projections have been considered in the particular context in which new training data becomes available and learned subspaces may need continuous updating. The two algorithms are based on either scatter matrix eigendecomposition or difference subspace orthonormalization as with the original DCV method. New regulations for medical products complicate research projects for new application fields and translation of innovative product ideas to refundable medical products becomes a high economic risk. All this demands for a CE-marked platform, which offers the possibility to access the recorded data online or even directly the hardware during research applications, to bridge the gap. This paper describes how a CE-marked medical product can be extended by different interfaces to enable basic research or simplify first proof-of-concept studies thus optimizing prototype development in research projects, simplifying the documentation process and reducing the risk for market access.

In this paper the concept of virtual environment for implementation and testing private Wide Area Network (WAN) solutions is presented. The VMware vSphere virtualization platform is used. The paper presents the ability to reflect the structure of any given WAN topology using Vyatta software routers and VMware virtualization platform and verifies its reliability regarding data transfer. The paper includes a number of performance tests to verify the dependability of the proposed solution and provide a proof-of-concept for the network topology during the Design phase of the PPDIOO methodology, right before the Implementation phase.
