Optically active amphiphilic hyperbranched polyglycerols as templates for palladium nanoparticles

Abstract We report a systematic study on the encapsulation of palladium nanoparticles in optically active amphiphilic hyperbranched polyglycerols with different optical signs and different degrees of polymerization, namely (−)-P(G 40 C16 0.5 ) 1 and (+)-P(G 73 C16 0.5 ) 2 . Solvent-free ruthenium-catalysed triflate coupling as a convenient method for selective azole-o-C-H monoarylation.

Metal-catalysed ortho-directed C–H functionalization usually faces selectivity issues in the competition between mono- and disubstitution processes. We report herein the ruthenium-catalysed N-directed C–H monoarylation of arylpyrazoles with a selectivity of up to 96% or that generally reaches values above 80%. This selectivity is an effect of solvent-free conditions associated with sulfonate reagents, in the absence of frequently used acidic additives.

Racemic and Optically Pure Heptahelicene-2-carboxylic Acid: Its Synthesis and Self-Assembly into Nanowire-Like Aggregates

Heptahelicene-2-carboxylic acid was effectively synthesised from suitably functionalised naphthalene building blocks. Methoxy-substituted 1,1'-ethyne-1,2-diylbis(2-but-3-yn-1-ylnaphthalene) was cyclised in the presence of CpCo(CO)(2)/PPh(3) to 2-methoxy-7,8,11,12-tetrahydroheptahelicene, which was converted into heptahelicen-2-yl trifluoromethanesulfonate. This reactive intermediate underwent Pd(OAc)(2)/dppp-catalysed methoxycarbonylation reaction to provide, after hydrolysis, heptahelicene-2-carboxylic acid. Self-Assembly, Characterisation, and Crystal Structure of Multinuclear Metal Complexes of the [2×3] and [3×3] Grid-Type

The self-assembly of new multimetallic complexes of grid-type architecture is described. The binding of a set of tris-terdentate ligands, 1 a-1 d, based on terpyridine-like subunits, with different octahedrally coordinated metal ions leads to the formation of species whose structure depends strongly on the ligand, the metal ion, the counterion, the solvent, and the reaction conditions. Under suitable conditions, the [3 x 3] grid was obtained from the reaction of ligand 1 a with zinc tetrafluoroborate and from ligand 1 b with mercury triflate. Heterogeneous catalytic oxidation of a series of thioethers (2-thiomethylpyrimidine, 2-thiomethyl-4,6-dimethyl-pyrimidine, 2-thiobenzylpyrimidine, 2-thiobenzyl-4,6-dimethylpyrimidine, thioanisole, and n-heptyl methyl sulfide) was performed in ionic liquids by using MCM-41 and UVM-type mesoporous catalysts containing Ti, or Ti and Ge. A range of triflate, tetrafluoroborate, trifluoroacetate, lactate and bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)-imide-based ionic liquids were used. Exposure of a THF solution of tantalocene dichloride complexes (η 5 -Cp*)TaCl 2 (η 5 -C 5 H 4 -SiMe 3 ) (1) and (η 5 -Cp*)TaCl 2 (η 5 -C 5 H 5 ) (2) to the ambient atmosphere for 12 h leads to the formation of new tantalum(V) cationic hydroxo complexes [(η 5 -Cp*)TaCl(OH)(η 5 -C 5 H 4 SiMe 3 )] + -Cl- (3) and [(η 5 -Cp*)TaCl(OH)(η 5 -C 5 H 5 )]+Cl - (4). This oxidation reaction is more rapid under oxygen atmosphere since the hydroxo complexes are obtained in better yields within only 15 min. New small concave hydrocarbon cyclophanes were prepared via the well-known HD-2SO2-method. The cyclophanes obtained are isomers of the very well-known [2.2.2]p,p,p-cyclophane, C24H24, a π-prismand efficiently complexing Ag+-ion. X-ray crystal structure determinations showed the bis-sulfide 7 (1,10-dithia[3.3.2]m,p,p-cyclophane) to be helically chiral and that the conformation of the parent hydrocarbon cyclophane 13 ([2.2.2]m,p,p-cyclophane) does not change dramatically upon complexation with the Ag+-ion. Refractive indices were determined for four different ionic liquid + water binary systems, from (288.15 to 338.15) K, and covering the entire composition range. The stereodivergent synthesis of N-tosyl α,β-dehydroamino esters via a Mukaiyama–Michael addition is reported. The reaction of silylketene acetals with N-tosylimines derived from β,γ-unsaturated α-keto esters in dichloromethane provided the corresponding (Z)-α,β-dehydroamino esters while the (E)-isomers were obtained when the reaction was carried out in the presence of 10 mol% copper(II) triflate.
