Photoplethysmography Analysis of Artery Properties in Patients with Cardiovascular Diseases

2008

In this study arterial parameters of healthy subjects were compared to those of patients with cardiovascular diseases. The photoplethysmography (PPG) measurements of blood volume pulsations have been performed. Using a novel algorithm for analysis of simultaneously measured ear and finger PPG signals, arterial parameters were evaluated in representative groups of healthy subjects and patients with cardiovascular diseases. Digital volume pulse (DVP), pulse cycle duration (T), augmentation index (AIx), reflection index (RI) and transit time of reflected wave (RTT) were evaluated in every heartbeat cycle. Correlations between the AIx and RI, T and RTT, AIx and standard deviation of AIx, RTT an…

Synthesis of cubic and hexagonal NaYF4:Er3+

2012

Up-conversion luminescence process, which is related to absorption of several light photons (usually infrared) followed by emission of light in the visible or even ultraviolet spectral regions, has attracted interest of scientists due to its potential practical use in various applications including biolabels, temperature sensors, light sources etc. Although observable in d- and f-ions doped materials, the highest efficiency of up-conversion luminescence is usually attained in lanthanides doped hosts. Among huge variety of materials suitable as up-conversion hosts the most prominent is considered to be NaYF4, both due to its low phonon energy and multisite nature of the crystalline lattice. …

Novel synthesis of up-conversion phosphor based on rare-earth doped NaLaF4

2011

In this work Er3+ doped NaLaF4 material has been synthesized Along with the description of the synthesis route, luminescence spectra and decay kinetics of both traditional and up-conversion luminescence of Er3+ will be presented for different Er3+ doping levels. It will be shown that the main mechanisms involved in the creation of the up-conversion luminescence in NaLaF4:Er3+ under excitation at about 975 nm are excited state absorption and energy transfer. Relative impact of either of the mechanisms in NaLaF4:Er3+ depends on both the concentration of Er3+ and on the excitation wavelength: the increase of either the concentration or the excitation wavelength leads to the prevalence of energ…

Up-Conversion Luminescence Processes in NaLaF4 Doped with Tm3+ and Yb3+ and Dependence on Tm3+ Concentration and Temperature

2021

In this work, luminescence processes in polycrystalline NaLaF4:Tm3+ and NaLaF4:Tm3+,Yb3+ materials were studied. Luminescence spectra and decay kinetics measurements were performed for NaLaF4 doped with various Tm3+ concentrations (0.01, 0.1, 0.5, 1, and 2 mol%) under direct excitation to 3P0, 1D2, 1G4, and 3H4 states. It was found that some of the Tm3+ excited states are more affected by Tm3+ concentration than other states. Under infrared excitation of Yb3+, energy transfer to Tm3+ occurred and intensive ultraviolet and blue up-conversion luminescence was observed. Possible up-conversion mechanisms are discussed. Spectroscopic measurements show that long-duration excitation radiation red…

Cladding-Pumped Erbium/Ytterbium Co-Doped Fiber Amplifier for C-Band Operation in Optical Networks

2021

Space-division multiplexing (SDM) attracts attention to cladding-pumped optical amplifiers, but they suffer from a low pump power conversion efficiency. To address this issue, ytterbium (Yb3+) and erbium (Er3+) co-doping is considered as an effective approach. However, it changes the gain profile of Er3+-doped fiber amplifiers and induces the gain difference between optical wavelengths in the C-band, significantly limiting the effective band of the dense wavelength-division multiplexed (DWDM) system. This paper is devoted to a detailed study of a cladding-pumped Er3+/Yb3+ co-doped fiber amplifier (EYDFA) through numerical simulations aiming to identify a configuration, before assembling a s…

ZnO and ZnO:Ga Ceramics for Advanced Scintillators

2020

The undoped ZnO reveals narrow luminescence bands located close to fundamental absorption edge, known as near band luminescence (NBL) and defects related wide luminescence band within visible range of spectrum. NBL decay is in sub-nanosecond range and it is promising for fast scintillator development. However, the defects luminescence decay is in microsecond range and it is disturbing for fast scintillators. Dopants strongly change the luminescence properties, mainly the intensity and decay time and that is the cause for intense study of doped ZnO luminescence properties. Thus the study of luminescent properties of undoped ZnO and doped ZnO:Ga ceramics was carried out. The dependence of the…

Temperature and impurity concentration effects on upconversion luminescence in LaInO3 doped with Er3+

2016

In this paper a novel method for synthesis of LaInO3:Er3+ is reported and upconversion luminescence properties of the synthesized material at different temperatures (9–300 K) are studied. The samples were prepared by co-precipitation and subsequent heat treatment of lanthanum, indium and erbium hydroxides. It is shown that the excitation at 980 nm leads to a strong green upconversion luminescence in the material. At the concentrations above 0.1 mol. % of Er3+ the energy transfer upconversion mechanism of the luminescence becomes evident. Further increase of Er3+ content in the material leads to higher red-to-green upconversion luminescence intensity ratio. The mechanisms responsible for the…

Selective excitation of up-conversion luminescence by Yb3+–Er3+ energy transfer in glass and crystalline phase of oxyfluoride glass ceramics

2010

Up-conversion luminescence of oxyfluoride glass and glass ceramics containing LaF3 crystallites doped with Yb 3+ and Er 3+ was investigated at low temperature. Excitation of Yb 3+ in the IR region revealed the fast and the slow components of Er 3+ up-conversion luminescence originating from both glass and crystalline phases. The temporal differences of the both kinds of the luminescence allowed reconstructing the excitation spectra of the up-conversion luminescence related to the glass and crystalline phases in the glass ceramics. 2010 Elsevier B.V. Comprehensive study on different crystal field environments in highly efficient NaLaF4:Er3+ upconversion phosphor

2015

Abstract Complex fluorides, especially rare-earth doped NaREF 4 (RE = Y 3+ , La 3+ or Gd 3+ ), are promising materials for the upconversion luminescence mostly due to low phonon energy of their matrices and multisite nature of the crystalline lattice. Although multisite formation in hexagonal NaREF 4 structures has generally been proved, the actual number of the active sites in different structures varies from two (NaGdF 4 ) to seven (NaYF 4 ). The aim of this work has been to study multisite formation in NaLaF 4 :Er 3+ . For this purpose low-temperature site-selective spectroscopy measurements in hexagonal NaLaF 4 :Er 3+ have been performed. Excitation at different wavelengths correspondin…

Defect-induced blue luminescence of hexagonal boron nitride

2016

Abstract Native defect-induced photoluminescence around 400 nm (blue luminescence - BL) was studied in hBN materials with different size and various origins. The following spectral characterizations were used: spectra of luminescence and its excitation, luminescence dependence on temperature, luminescence kinetics, optically stimulated luminescence and infrared absorption. It was found, that the BL is characteristic for all these materials, which were studied. The BL forms a wide, asymmetric and phonon-assisted emission band at 380 nm. This luminescence can be excited either through the exciton processes, or with light from two defect-induced excitation bands at 340 nm and 265 nm. It was fo…

Spectroscopic studies of Cr3+ ions in natural single crystal of magnesium aluminate spinel MgAl2O4

2021

Abstract The natural spinel crystal MgAl2O4 containing the Cr3+ ions was studied experimentally and theoretically in this paper. The absorption and emission spectra at room and low temperatures were recorded. The experimental spectroscopic results were aided with the crystal field calculations, which returned the energy level schemes of the Cr3+ ions at the Al sites with the local D3d symmetry. Effects of the trigonal crystal field were clearly seen in the calculated results, which were compared with the experimental spectra to yield a good agreement between both data sets.

How activator ion concentration affects spectroscopic properties on Ba4Y3F17: Er3+, Yb3+, a new perspective up-conversion material

2018

Abstract Ba4Y3F17 with Er3+ and Yb3+, a promising material for up-conversion luminescence, was synthesized. Excellent isomorphic capacity was detected. Low-temperature measurements show that erbium ions are incorporated in multiple lattice positions, which is inconsistent with the current model of Ba4Y3F17 crystal lattice structure. Activator ion concentration has a different impact on 4S3/2 and 4F9/2, states (for the green and red luminescence, respectively) depopulation. Energy transfer from Er3+ 4S3/2 state to Yb3+ is observed even at low temperature (15 K) while Er-Er cross-relaxation is observed from 120 K and above. Yb3+ concentration has a great impact to red-to-green up-conversion l…

<title>Formation of deep acceptor centers in AlGaN alloys</title>

2008

AlGaN alloy thin film materials are of high interest for light emitting diodes (LED of the ultraviolet (UV) spectral region. Origin of the deep intrinsic and impurity Si states in the AlxGa1-xN (0 < x < 0.35) epilayer structures grown by metalorganic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) technique have been considered. Effects of the lattice mismatch and Si-doping in the heterostructures of epilayers with different alloy composition are investigated using time resolved photoluminescence (PL) of donor – deep acceptor (DA) pairs. It is shown that the undoped AlGaN alloys, grown on a GaN buffer layer, due to the lattice mismatch contain the increased concentration of cation vacancy (Vcation) defec…

Photoluminescence of neodymium and erbium doped NaLaF4 material

2013

Abstract In the course of this research several NaLaF 4 samples doped with different Er 3+ and Nd 3+ concentrations have been synthesized. For these samples photoluminescence spectra, kinetics and excitation spectra have been measured. It has been found that when samples containing Nd 3+ and Er 3+ impurities are excited in specific Nd 3+ bands not only Nd 3+ but also Er 3+ luminescence bands appear. The studies of the decay kinetics show that there is an energy transfer from Nd 3+ to Er 3+ , moreover “green” and “red” Er 3+ luminescence bands appear as result of two different energy transfer mechanisms. In addition, photoluminescence processes in Nd 3+ ions are investigated. Based on the ob…

Luminescence properties of Eu, RE3+ (RE = Dy, Sm, Tb) co-doped oxyfluoride glasses and glass–ceramics

2017

Abstract Eu, RE3+ (RE = Dy, Sm, Tb) co-doped SiO2–CaF2–Al2O3–CaO oxyfluoride glasses have been prepared by the melt quenching method. By heating the precursor glasses at 670 °C for 1 h, glass–ceramics containing CaF2 nanocrystallites were obtained. DTA and XRD measurements were performed. Excitation spectra of the prepared samples as well as photoluminescence spectra at the excitation of 355 nm and 450 nm were measured, CIE colour coordinates and colour rendering indexes were found. In the glass–ceramics the presence of Eu2+ ions was observed by a broad emission band in the 400–500 nm spectral range. The most promising doping combinations for white light luminophores within our research are…

Sub-band-gap-excited luminescence of localized states in SiO2–Si and SiO2–Al glasses

2010

Abstract Silica glass samples doped with extra silicon (SiO 2 –Si: artificial oxygen deficiency) and with aluminum (SiO 2 –Al: Al-doped without accompanying alkali ions) were studied. The luminescence properties of these two samples are compared in the range of temperature 15–290 K under excitation of ArF excimer laser (193 nm). In both samples the luminescence of oxygen deficient centers (ODCs) is detected, i.e., emission bands in the blue at 440 nm and the UV at 280 nm. Cooling of the both samples led to strong increases of luminescence intensity down to 80 K with much smaller increases for still lower temperatures. At 290 K in SiO 2 –Si a luminescence similar to that of twofold-coordinat…

Nonlinear refraction and absorption of spectrally tuneable picosecond pulses in carbon disulfide

2021

Abstract We analyze the spectral dependence of the nonlinear refractive index and nonlinear absorption coefficient of carbon disulfide (CS2) in the spectral range of 400–1100 nm using picosecond laser pulses. An increase of the nonlinear refractive index of CS2 at the shorter wavelength region compared with the near infrared region (9 × 10−14 cm2 W−1 (λ = 700 nm) and 4 × 10−14 cm2 W−1 (λ = 1000 nm), respectively) follows by a decrease of this parameter at the wavelengths below 600 nm. We compare the spectral dependences of the lower- and higher-order nonlinear absorption coefficients in carbon disulfide. The three-photon absorption coefficient was found to be maximal at λ = 1000 nm (β3PA = …

Multicolor Up-Conversion Luminescence in Rare-Earth Doped NaLaF4

2011

In this work we tried to achieve multicolor up-conversion luminescence in low phonon energy material NaLaF4 doped with different Er3+ Tm3+ and Yb3+ concentrations. Up-conversion luminescence was measured and main luminescence bands from Er3+ and Tm3+ in red, green and blue spectral regions were observed. The relative intensities of the luminescence bands could be changed by changing the doping levels of rare-earth ions. Changes in the up-conversion luminescence color could be achieved by applying different infrared pump power density. The color coordinates of the multicolor up-conversion luminescence depending on doping level as well as on the pump power density were presented in CIE (x, y)…

The role of disorder on Er3+ luminescence in Na1/2Bi1/2TiO3

2018

Abstract Photoluminescence in Er-doped NBT is studied at different temperatures. Remarkable reduction of the luminescence intensity in the green spectral range is found in the poled state comparing with the depoled state. Luminescence spectra at low temperatures reveal continuous wavelength shift of some maxima belonging to the 4 S 3/2  →  4 I 15/2 transition depending on the excitation wavelength, which is explained by large variety of different environments around Er 3+ related to the random distribution of Na + and Bi 3+ in A-sublattice of the ABO 3 perovskite structure. Poling extends the wavelength range where shift of luminescence maxima is observed in the direction of longer excitati…

Temperature influence on NaLaF 4 :Er 3+ green luminescence

2016

Abstract Er 3+ doped NaLaF 4 is a promising material for up-conversion luminescence applications due to low phonon energy and multisite nature of the crystalline lattice. In this work, luminescence processes in NaLaF 4 :Er 3+ materials have been studied at different temperatures. Spectra and decay kinetics of the green luminescence were measured under excitation to 4 F 7/2 state. Analysis of the green luminescence excitation spectra, the luminescence spectra and the luminescence decay kinetics at different temperatures reveals that the observed single green luminescence spectra at room temperature are related to overlapping of the green luminescence excitation bands from erbium ions located…
