"Dybbuk" by Michal Waszynski (1937): between magic and mysticism

International audience; Dybbuk, in the folklore of Hassidic Jews in Eastern Europe, is a spirit of a dead man who takes possession of the body of the person to whom he was attached in his lifetime. Michal Waszynski's "The Dybbuk", shot in Poland in 1937, set on stage this figure, based on the play by Sholem An-Ski, a Russian ethnographer, and on the expressionist aesthetics. Waszynski's film is a fiction witness that contains traces of the existence of Yiddish culture and the magical beliefs of Eastern European Jews before the Second World War, from which the legend of Dybbuk is originated. The main subject of this thesis is a case study of Polish cinematographic production under the communist period in the 1970's called TOR (Kieslowski, Zanussi, Rozewicz). This research points out the author-filmmaker's creative autonomy confronted to the Cultural Policy upheavals which have determined film production in a non - democratic country : Polish People's Republic in the 1970s. "CoinCoin et les Z'inhumains": creative thought of Bruno Dumont

International audience; Our article aims to analyze the essayistic and philosophical posture of Bruno Dumont, through the study of his latest series in four episodes, CoinCoin and Z'inhumains, broadcast in September 2018 by the French channel ARTE. Our questioning about the philosophical scope of CoinCoin et les z’inhumains leaded us to compare the reflexive approach chosen by the director to awaken the spectator to the act of throwing a cream pie. With the help of irony, laughter, carnival characters and burlesque, which are the ingredients of this pie, the viewer's senses sober up and push him or her to raise his or her head to look up.
