Thermal energy storage in granular deposits
2017
Energy storage technology is crucial for the development of the use of renewable energy sources. This is a substantial constraint, however it can, to some extent, be solved by storing energy in its various forms: electrical, mechanical, chemical and thermal. This article presents the results of research in thermal properties of granular deposits. Correlation between temperature changes in the stores over a period of time and their physical properties has been studied. The results of the research have practical application in designing thermal stores based on bulk materials and ground deposits. Furthermore, the research results are significant for regeneration of the lower ground sources for…
The use of sand deposits in buildings for energy storage
2018
The aim of the research is to prepare data for the design of heat stores with sand filling. In buildings without basement, spaces between foundation walls are filled with material easily compacted, which forms a solid and durable basis for the ground level of the building. As a rule, this material is sand of various grain size, and foundation walls are insulated. In this way, a space filled with a granular material is formed, which, with a properly designed heat exchanger attached, may be used as sensible-heat storage. Such a store makes a good lower level source for heat pumps - source of heat at the time of low temperatures outside, which significantly raises the coefficient of efficiency…
The possibilities of energy storage in bulk materials
2018
The increased demand for energy from renewable sources entails the development of storage systems. The purpose of these systems is to supply energy on demand during periods which may not be concurrent with the time of the most efficient production of this energy. Various systems are being developed for storing energy in various forms and over various lengths of time. This paper presents selected projects and the results of studies into thermal energy storage. The results of the present author's own research into the transport of thermal energy in granular beds are also presented. The curves of temperature distribution have been determined; they are essential for the design of the thermal sto…
