Dark matter in a charged variant of the Scotogenic model

2022

Scotogenic models are among the most popular possibilities to link dark matter and neutrino masses. In this work we discuss a variant of the Scotogenic model that includes charged fermions and a doublet with hypercharge $3/2$. Neutrino masses are induced at the one-loop level thanks to the states belonging to the dark sector. However, in contrast to the standard Scotogenic model, only the scalar dark matter candidate is viable in this version. After presenting the model and explaining some particularities about neutrino mass generation, we concentrate on its dark matter phenomenology. We show that the observed dark matter relic density can be correctly reproduced in the usual parameter spac…

Radiative Seesaw Dark Matter

2021

The singlet majoron model of seesaw neutrino mass is appended by one dark Majorana fermion singlet $\chi$ with $L=2$ and one dark complex scalar singlet $\zeta$ with $L=1$. This simple setup allows $\chi$ to obtain a small radiative mass anchored by the same heavy right-handed neutrinos, whereas the one-loop decay of the standard-model Higgs boson to $\chi \chi + \bar{\chi} \bar{\chi}$ provides the freeze-in mechanism for $\chi$ to be the light dark matter of the Universe.

Soft masses in SUSY SO(10) GUTs with low intermediate scales

2012

The specific shape of the squark, slepton and gaugino mass spectra, if measured with sufficient accuracy, can provide invaluable information not only about the dynamics underpinning their origin at some very high scale such as the unification scale MG, but also about the intermediate scale physics encountered throughout their RGE evolution down to the energy scale accessible for the LHC. In this work, we study general features of the TeV scale soft SUSY breaking parameters stemming from a generic mSugra configuration within certain classes of SUSY SO(10) GUTs with different intermediate symmetries below MG. We show that particular combinations of soft masses show characteristic deviations f…

Dark Matter and the elusive $\mathbf{Z'}$ in a dynamical Inverse Seesaw scenario

2017

The Inverse Seesaw naturally explains the smallness of neutrino masses via an approximate $B-L$ symmetry broken only by a correspondingly small parameter. In this work the possible dynamical generation of the Inverse Seesaw neutrino mass mechanism from the spontaneous breaking of a gauged $U(1)$ $B-L$ symmetry is investigated. Interestingly, the Inverse Seesaw pattern requires a chiral content such that anomaly cancellation predicts the existence of extra fermions belonging to a dark sector with large, non-trivial, charges under the $U(1)$ $B-L$. We investigate the phenomenology associated to these new states and find that one of them is a viable dark matter candidate with mass around the T…

Phenomenology of scotogenic scalar dark matter

2020

We reexamine the minimal Singlet + Triplet Scotogenic Model, where dark matter is the mediator of neutrino mass generation. We assume it to be a scalar WIMP, whose stability follows from the same $\mathbb{Z} _{2}$ symmetry that leads to the radiative origin of neutrino masses. The scheme is the minimal one that allows for solar and atmospheric mass scales to be generated. We perform a full numerical analysis of the signatures expected at dark matter as well as collider experiments. We identify parameter regions where dark matter predictions agree with theoretical and experimental constraints, such as neutrino oscillations, Higgs data, dark matter relic abundance and direct detection searche…

Signatures of primordial black hole dark matter at DUNE and THEIA

2021

Primordial black holes (PBHs) are a potential dark matter candidate whose masses can span over many orders of magnitude. If they have masses in the $10^{15}-10^{17}$ g range, they can emit sizeable fluxes of MeV neutrinos through evaporation via Hawking radiation. We explore the possibility of detecting light (non-)rotating PBHs with future neutrino experiments. We focus on two next generation facilities: the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE) and THEIA. We simulate the expected event spectra at both experiments assuming different PBH mass distributions and spins, and we extract the expected 95% C.L. sensitivities to these scenarios. Our analysis shows that future neutrino experime…

Effective Majorana mass matrix from tau and pseudoscalar meson lepton number violating decays

2018

An observation of any lepton number violating process will undoubtedly point towards the existence of new physics and indirectly to the clear Majorana nature of the exchanged fermion. In this work, we explore the potential of a minimal extension of the Standard Model via heavy sterile fermions with masses in the $[ 0.1 - 10]$ GeV range concerning an extensive array of "neutrinoless" meson and tau decay processes. We assume that the Majorana neutrinos are produced on-shell, and focus on three-body decays. We conduct an update on the bounds on the active-sterile mixing elements, $|U_{\ell_\alpha 4} U_{\ell_\beta 4}|$, taking into account the most recent experimental bounds (and constraints) a…

Right Handed Sneutrino Dark Matter in Inverse and Linear seesaw scenarios

2012

We consider supersymmetric models in which the right-handed sneutrino is a viable WIMP dark matter candidate. These are either simple extensions of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model or models with the addition of an extra U(1) group. All of them can explain small neutrino masses, through either the Inverse or the Linear Seesaw mechanism. We investigate the properties of the dark matter candidate naturally arising in these scenarios. We check for phenomenological bounds, such as correct relic abundance, consistency with direct detection cross section limits and laboratory constraints. Especially, we comment on limitations of the model space due to lepton flavour violating charged lep…

Conservative upper limits on WIMP annihilation cross section from Fermi-LAT γ rays

2012

The spectrum of an isotropic extragalactic {\gamma}-ray background (EGB) has been measured by the Fermi-LAT telescope at high latitudes. Two new models for the EGB are derived from the subraction of unresolved point sources and extragalactic diffuse processes, which could explain from 30% to 70% of the Fermi-LAT EGB. Within the hypothesis that the two residual EGBs are entirely due to the annihilation of dark matter (DM) particles in the Galactic halo, we obtain stringent upper limits on their annihilation cross section. Severe bounds on a possible Sommerfeld enhancement of the annihilation cross section are set as well. Finally, we consider models for DM annihilation depending on the inver…

Sneutrino Dark Matter in Low-scale Seesaw Scenarios

2012

We consider supersymmetric models in which sneutrinos are viable dark matter candidates. These are either simple extensions of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model with additional singlet superfields, such as the inverse or linear seesaw, or a model with an additional U(1) group. All of these models can accomodate the observed small neutrino masses and large mixings. We investigate the properties of sneutrinos as dark matter candidates in these scenarios. We check for phenomenological bounds, such as correct relic abundance, consistency with direct detection cross section limits and laboratory constraints, among others lepton flavour violating (LFV) charged lepton decays.
