Objective The evaluation of services by patients is an integral part of continuous quality improvement in anaesthesia. Patient satisfaction is affected by various objective and subjective variables. Individual experiences, impressions and needs represent an important part of overall patient satisfaction. Methods Data of 519 patients were collected in a standardised anonymous questionnaire independent of the post-anaesthetic visit. Results Anaesthesia staff appeared to be friendly to 97 % of patients asked, 95 % of patients wanted to be treated by the same staff in case of another anaesthesia, nearly 87 % felt relaxed and satisfied after anaesthesia. pp and ππ intensity interferometry in collisions of Ar+KCl at 1.76A GeV

Results on pp, π+π+, and π-π- intensity interferometry are reported for collisions of Ar+KCl at 1.76$A$~GeV beam energy, studied with the High Acceptance Di-Electron Spectrometer (HADES) at SIS18/GSI. The experimental correlation functions as a function of the relative momentum are compared to model calculations allowing the determination of the space-time extent of the corresponding emission sources. The π π source radii are found significantly larger than the pp emission radius. The present radii do well complement the source-size excitation functions of the collision system of size $A+A \simeq 40+40$. Electromagnetic Calorimeter for HADES Experiment

Electromagnetic calorimeter (ECAL) is being developed to complement dilep- ton spectrometer HADES. ECAL will enable the HADES@FAIR experiment to mea- sure data on neutral meson production in heavy ion collisions at the energy range of 2-10 AGeV on the beam of future accelerator SIS100@FAIR. We will report results of the last beam test with quasi-monoenergetic photons carried out in MAMI facility at Jo- hannes Gutenberg Universitat Mainz.

Verification of Electromagnetic Calorimeter Concept for the HADES spectrometer

The HADES spectrometer currently operating on the beam of SIS18 accelerator in GSI will be moved to a new position in the CBM cave of the future FAIR complex. Electromagnetic calorimeter (ECAL) will enable the HADES@FAIR experiment to measure data on neutral meson production in heavy ion collisions at the energy range of 2-10 A GeVon the beam of the new accelerator SIS100. Calorimeter will be based on 978 massive lead glass modules read out by photomultipliers and a novel front-end electronics. Emission patterns of neutral pions in40AMeV Ta+Au reactions

Differential cross sections of neutral pions emitted in {sup 181}Ta+{sup 197}Au collisions at a beam energy of 39.5A MeV have been measured with the two-arm photon spectrometer (TAPS). The kinetic energy and transverse momentum spectra of neutral pions cannot be properly described in the framework of the thermal model, nor when the reabsorption of pions is accounted for in a phenomenological model. However, high energy and high momentum tails of the pion spectra can be well fitted through thermal distributions with unexpectedly soft temperature parameters below 10 MeV.

Exclusive πo- and η-meson production in 40Ar + natCa at 800A MeV

Abstract The impact-parameter dependence of π o - and η-meson production is reported for the system 40 Ar+ nat Ca at a beam energy of 800 A MeV. Scaling of the meson abundances with the transverse mass is observed. The experimental results are compared to calculations within the BUU model.

Detection of charged pions and protons in the segmented electromagnetic calorimeter TAPS

We present the characteristics of the segmented BaF2 calorimeter TAPS for the measurement of charged pions and protons. The method of particle identification exploits the relation between the kinetic energy of a particle, its mass and the time-of-flight required to reach the detector. The detection efficiency is calculated using GEANT-GCALOR simulations. The analysis method is applied in the reaction Ar-40 + Ca-nat at 0.8A GeV. The simultaneous detection of charged pions and protons can be used to search for correlated pairs signalling the de-excitation of the Delta(1232) resonance. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. Deep sub-threshold K*(892)0 production in collisions of Ar + KCl at 1.76A GeV

Results on the deep sub-threshold production of the short-lived hadronic resonance K*(892)0 are reported for collisions of Ar + KCl at 1.76A GeV beam energy, studied with the High Acceptance Di-Electron Spectrometer (HADES) at SIS18/GSI. The K*(892)0 production probability per central collision of \( P_{K^{*0}}=(4.4\pm 1.1 \pm 0.5)\times 10^{-4}\) and the K*(892)0/K0 ratio of \( P_{K^{*0}}/P_{K^0}=(1.9\pm 0.5\pm 0.3)\times 10^{-2}\) are determined at the lowest energy so far (i.e. deep below the threshold for the corresponding production in nucleon-nucleon collisions, \( \sqrt{s_{NN}}-\sqrt{s_{thr}}=-340\) MeV).
