Non-markovian dynamics and spectrum of a moving atom strongly coupled to the field in a damped cavity

1993

Abstract We study the internal dynamics of an atom entering in its excited state in a damped cavity and strongly coupled to the field. We show that the time evolution of its dipole operator is described by a second order Langevin-like equation with time dependent coefficients. We use this equation to investigate the time dependence of the average population inversion and the spectrum of the emitted radiation. We discuss how Rabi oscillations are modified by the motion of the atom and how the spectrum changes from the vacuum Rabi doublet to a more complex structure having new lines, different frequency localizations and modified widths.

Adrenocorticotropic hormone and cortisol plasma levels directly correlate with childhood neglect and depression measures in addicted patients.

2008

Hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis dysfunction has been reported to be involved in vulnerability to alcohol and drug dependence in humans, possibly underlying both addictive behaviour and depression susceptibility. The aim of the present study was to investigate the possible interactions between childhood adverse experiences, depressive symptoms and HPA axis function in addicted patients, in comparison with healthy control. Eighty-two abstinent heroin or cocaine dependent patients and 44 normal controls, matched for age and sex, completed the symptoms Check List-90 (SCL-90), measuring depressive symptoms, and the Childhood Experience of Care and Abuse Questionnaire. Blood samples wer…

Phonon Avalanche and Superradiance in Paramagnetic Relaxation

1979

New quantum equations for superradiance in extended systems are presented. The possibility of acoustic superradiant emission is discussed on the basis of these equations and a new condition is introduced for superradiance to prevail over incoherent phonon avalanche.

Excitation Spectrum of a Linear Chain of Paramagnetic Atoms with Spin-Phonon Interaction

1967

The low-lying energy levels of a paramagnetic chain in the presence of spin-phonon interaction have been investigated. It is shown that there is no gap in the one-particle excitation spectrum.

Theory of the dynamical behaviour of inverted spins linearly coupled to a lattice

1971

Abstract The relaxation process of a system of paramagnetic spins linearly interacting with a phonon field is studied in the region of inverted population of the levels. The peculiar dynamical behaviour of the present model in that region is shown to be in agreement with some recent experimental results.

Childhood neglect and parental care perception in cocaine addicts: Relation with psychiatric symptoms and biological correlates

2009

Childhood neglect and poor child–parent relationships have been reported to increase substance use disorders susceptibility. Stressful environmental factors, including emotional neglect, could affect individual personality traits and mental health, possibly inducing stable changes in hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal (HPA) axis and brain mono-amine function, in turn involved in addictive behavior vulnerability. Therefore, we decided to investigate homovanillic (HVA) and prolactin (PRL) plasma levels, as expression of possible changes in dopamine function, ACTH and cortisol plasma levels, as measures of HPA axis function, and concomitant psychiatric symptoms profile in abstinent cocaine a…

HCV Prevalence in Italy an Epidemiological, Observational, Cross-Sectional, Multicenter Study Participating Centers.

2012

There is a lack of updated nationwide records regarding hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection among drug addicts in Italy. The prevalence and characteristics of HCV infection in a national sample of drug addicts in Italy were determined. Five hundred forty-three drug addicts (mean age 35.3 years, 85.1% males), selected from 25 Italian Centers for Substance Dependence were enrolled to be evaluated for anti-HCV, HCV-RNA, HCV genotype, HBV markers, anti-HDV, and anti-HIV during the period of April-November 2009. Anti-HCV prevalence was 63.9%. HCV-RNA was detected in 68.3% of patients positive for anti-HCV. Genotypes 1 and 3 prevailed (49.3% and 39.7%, respectively). However, 9.3% of the subjects h…
