Dynamics in the Field of Museums: Contemporary Challenges for Polish Museologists

2018

The aim of this text is to present and analyze the attitudes of Polish museologists towards the changes currently taking place in the field of museums. More specifically, it will focus on their opinions regarding the evolution of museums—from the traditional model, based on symbolic violence, to the contemporary model, which accents the subjectivity of the audience. Its conclusions, based on analyses of 26 qualitative interviews with employees of Polish museums, are as follows: the organizational changes taking place in Polish museums do not relieve museologists from bureaucratic work; the collections in museums distinguish them from other institutions of culture; there is a struggle …

2017

Under the influence of contemporary social and political changes, which have resulted in, inter alia, changes in the structure of museum audiences and their expectations, museums have had to implement new practices and tools which were previously not present in their fields of interest. these processes changed the definition of the mission of a contemporary museum and the way of ommunicating with participants of culture. today a museum, like every other institution on the entertainment and leisure market, has to attract recipients of its offer. Muzeum w rytmie miasta – nowe wyzwania dla tradycyjnej elity

Museum in the rhythm of the city – the new challenges for traditional elite
City museums have been guardians of city treasures. They illuminate the city’s finest hours and the high points of its history. A careful observation of changes happening in ways and styles of life in societies of late modernity shows limitations resulting from the Enlightenment museum discourse. A postmodernist blurring of a borderline between a high and low culture constitutes a starting point for going beyond fixed modes of thinking about museums as just dignified art institutions and temples of knowledge. Thus, museologists make efforts to make new exhibition arrangements adjusted to the present‑day expect…

Kobieca strona dyskursu onkologicznego. Empiryczne spojrzenie na demokratyzację wiedzy medycznej

2015
