Esta tesis doctoral tiene como objetivo el examen de las tipologías iconográficas que el arte ha dejado sobre el ritual litúrgico de las ordenaciones en la Iglesia latina, distinguiendo las conceptuales de las narrativas. Las procedentes de libros destinados al culto han sido vinculadas con las indicaciones suministradas por las rúbricas, para determinar si, además de narrativas, eran descriptivas de la ritualidad. Si se exceptúa el Rollo de Landolfo, escrito e ilustrado en el sur de Italia hacia el 970, habrá que esperar a las décadas finales del siglo XIII para ver cómo se diseña en Roma un ciclo icónico que acompañaría al pontifical compilado en esa centuria. ABSTRACT: The 12 th century saw the culmination of a massive reform movement within the Church, intended both to reinforce the figures of the Pope and bishops and to standardise the Western European liturgy, based on the one utilized at that time in the papal chapel. To this end, a number of books were published, among which was a new version of the pontifical, accompanied by an iconographic cycle in which the descriptive dimension of the portrayals stands out prominently to support the text in its task of ritual codification.
