Central Region Upgrade for the Jyväskylä K130 Cyclotron

The Jyväskylä K130 cyclotron has been in operation for more than 25 years providing beams from H to Au with energies ranging from 1 to 80 MeV/u for nuclear physics research and applications. At the typical energies around 5 MeV/u used for the nuclear physics program the injection voltage used is about 10 kV. The low voltage limits the beam intensity especially from the 18 GHz ECRIS HIISI. To increase the beam intensities the central region of the K130 cyclotron is being upgraded by increasing the injection voltage by a factor of 2. Spin-parity of the 13.35 MeV state and high-lying states around 20 MeV in excitation energy in 12C nucleus

A study of the 11B(3He,d)12C reaction at incident 3He energy Elab = 25 MeV has been performed at the K-130 cyclotron at the University of Jyväskylä, Finland. Differential cross sections have been measured for the 13.35 MeV state and for the states with excitation energy around 20 MeV in 12C. The data were analyzed with the DWBA method. A tentative assignment, 4−, is given for the state at 13.35 MeV in a joint study of the reaction and inelastic scattering of α-particles with the energy of 110 MeV. For the state at 20.98 MeV, the possible spin-parity 3− and the isospin T =0 are assigned for the first time. Our model description of the broad state at 21.6 MeV is consistent with the previous as…

Pulsed electromagnetic field therapy in the treatment of pain and other symptoms in fibromyalgia : a randomized controlled study

Low-energy pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) therapy has been suggested as a promising therapy to increase microcirculation, which is of great concern in patients with fibromyalgia. This study evaluated the effectiveness of PEMF therapy on the treatment of fibromyalgia. A group of 108 women with fibromyalgia were allocated to a 12-week treatment period with an active Bio-Electro-Magnetic-Energy-Regulation (BEMER) device and a similar treatment period with an inactive device. Retrieval of atmospheric CH4profiles from Fourier transform infrared data using dimension reduction and MCMC

We introduce an inversion method that uses dimension reduction for the retrieval of atmospheric methane (CH4) profiles. Uncertainty analysis is performed using the Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) statistical estimation. These techniques are used to retrieve CH4 profiles from the ground-based spectral measurements by the Fourier Transform Spectrometer (FTS) instrument at Sodankyla (67.4 degrees N, 26.6 degrees E), Northern Finland. The Sodankyla FTS is part of the Total Carbon Column Observing Network (TCCON), a global network that observes solar spectra in near-infrared wavelengths.
