Connected and Autonomous Vehicles cooperate with the pedestrian in industrial sites based on trajectory optimization and vehicle signalization system

2020

Connected and autonomous vehicles (CAV) is the development trend in the field of transportation systems. Recent studies show that the resources sharing between pedestrians and CAV is a big challenge. Considering traffic safety and efficiency at that sharing point not only requires a collision avoidance system but also more communicative behaviors of the CAV. More precisely, pedestrian needs to understand the intention of the incoming CAV whether it will cross first or not according to its speed profile. This paper uses the optimal trajectory control to provide CAV with a communicative behavior. A scenario where CAV and pedestrian cooperate together to cross a conflict zone is studied. A com…

Millimeter-Scale and Billion-Atom Reactive Force Field Simulation on Sunway Taihulight

2020

Large-scale molecular dynamics (MD) simulations on supercomputers play an increasingly important role in many research areas. With the capability of simulating charge equilibration (QEq), bonds and so on, Reactive force field (ReaxFF) enables the precise simulation of chemical reactions. Compared to the first principle molecular dynamics (FPMD), ReaxFF has far lower requirements on computational resources so that it can achieve higher efficiencies for large-scale simulations. In this article, we present our efforts on scaling ReaxFF on the Sunway TaihuLight Supercomputer (TaihuLight). We have carefully redesigned the force analysis and neighbor list building steps. By applying fine-grained …

Early detection of the risk of developing psychiatric disorders: a study of 461 Chinese university students under chronic stress

2019

Chronic stress, a characteristic of modern time, has a significant impact on general health. In the context of psychiatric disorders, insufficient coping behavior under chronic stress has been linked to higher rates of (1) depressive symptoms among subjects of the general population, (2) relapse among patients under treatment for clinical depression, and (3) negative symptoms among subjects with an elevated vulnerability to psychosis. In this normative study we assessed basic coping behavior among 461 Chinese freshman university students along with their consumption behavior and general health in terms of regular exercises, physical health, psychosomatic disturbances, and mental health. The…

Structural Infrared Analysis of Ultra Nanosized Crystals of Yttria-Stabilized Zirconia

2017

This paper describes the characterization of ultra nanosized crystals as monoclinic, tetragonal, cubic or mixed phases of ZrO2. Nanopowders are produced using the microwave method, which allows control of the ratio of zirconium to yttrium to yield various crystallographic structures. The synthesized ultra nanosized particles have very broad XRD peaks. In particular, the similarity of the XRD peaks of tetragonal and cubic nanocrystals makes it difficult to distinguish between these two crystals. In this paper, tetragonal and cubic nanocrystals were clearly distinguished using infrared spectroscopy (IR). An infrared spectroscopic method to quantitatively analyse the percentage distribution be…

Neighbor-list-free molecular dynamics on sunway TaihuLight supercomputer

2020

Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations are playing an increasingly important role in many research areas. Pair-wise potentials are widely used in MD simulations of bio-molecules, polymers, and nano-scale materials. Due to a low compute-to-memory-access ratio, their calculation is often bounded by memory transfer speeds. Sunway TaihuLight is one of the fastest supercomputers featuring a custom SW26010 many-core processor. Since the SW26010 has some critical limitations regarding main memory bandwidth and scratchpad memory size, it is considered as a good platform to investigate the optimization of pair-wise potentials especially in terms of data reusage. MD algorithms often use a neighbor-list …

The Sun Is no Fun without Rain

2019

Across cultures, people associate colours with emotions. Here, we test the hypothesis that one driver of this cross-modal correspondence is the physical environment we live in. We focus on a prime example – the association of yellow with joy, – which conceivably arises because yellow is reminiscent of life-sustaining sunshine and pleasant weather. If so, this association should be especially strong in countries where sunny weather is a rare occurrence. We analysed yellow-joy associations of 6625 participants from 55 countries to investigate how yellow-joy associations varied geographically, climatologically, and seasonally. We assessed the distance to the equator, sunshine, precipitation, a…

Universal Patterns in Color-Emotion Associations Are Further Shaped by Linguistic and Geographic Proximity

2020

Many of us “see red,” “feel blue,” or “turn green with envy.” Are such color-emotion associations fundamental to our shared cognitive architecture, or are they cultural creations learned through our languages and traditions? To answer these questions, we tested emotional associations of colors in 4,598 participants from 30 nations speaking 22 native languages. Participants associated 20 emotion concepts with 12 color terms. Pattern-similarity analyses revealed universal color-emotion associations (average similarity coefficient r = .88). However, local differences were also apparent. A machine-learning algorithm revealed that nation predicted color-emotion associations above and beyond tho…

Autonomous vehicle with communicative driving for pedestrian crossing: Trajectory optimization

2020

Connected and autonomous vehicles (CAV) is a key technology for this century. One of the main challenges is to define a smart interaction behavior of CAV with the other road users. The challenge is mainly raised at conflicting points where path of CAV intersects with the other users. Recent studies show interaction with humans is a big challenge. It not only requires a collision avoidance system but also more communicative behaviors of the CAV. More precisely, pedestrian needs to understand the intention of the incoming CAV whether it will cross first or not according to its speed profile. One way to overcome this issue is to design optimal trajectory control of the CAV that matches with th…

Luminescence and vacuum ultraviolet excitation spectroscopy of samarium doped SrB4O7

2020

Abstract Sm2+ and Sm3+ co-doped SrB4O7 could be utilized in several high-level optical devices and fundamental knowledge about the optical behavior of these materials benefits the development of luminescent applications. Herein, we report luminescence and its vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) excitation spectra in samarium doped SrB4O7. Both, Sm2+ and Sm3+ luminescence centers have been examined and distinguished in the emission and the excitation spectra investigated under synchrotron radiation. The contribution of either Sm2+ or Sm3+ emission lines into the emission spectra heavily depended on the excitation energy, and strong f-f transitions of both Sm2+ and Sm3+ were detected. At 10 K, a broad i…

Cell-List based Molecular Dynamics on Many-Core Processors: A Case Study on Sunway TaihuLight Supercomputer

2020

Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations are playing an increasingly important role in several research areas. The most frequently used potentials in MD simulations are pair-wise potentials. Due to the memory wall, computing pair-wise potentials on many-core processors are usually memory bounded. In this paper, we take the SW26010 processor as an exemplary platform to explore the possibility to break the memory bottleneck by improving data reusage via cell-list-based methods. We use cell-lists instead of neighbor-lists in the potential computation, and apply a number of novel optimization methods. Theses methods include: an adaptive replica arrangement strategy, a parameter profile data structur…
