Emittance measurements with optical transition radiation at the S-DALINAC

2020

Abstract A new emittance measurement system has been installed at the superconducting, recirculating electron accelerator S-DALINAC. It is based on the quadrupole-scan technique and beam profile measurements with optical transition radiation. A first demonstration of this setup has been conducted as part of the beam-based alignment of an SRF cavity. The corresponding emittance measurement is described here, and the following data evaluation is discussed.

Beam-based alignment of SRF cavities in an electron injector linac

2018

Proper alignment of accelerating cavities is an important issue concerning beam quality of linear rf-accelerators. In particular, SRF cavities of injector linacs using high accelerating gradients on low-velocity electron beams can deteriorate the beam quality significantly when not aligned sufficiently. On the other hand, knowing the exact position of every cavity after several cool-down cycles of a cryomodule can be difficult depending on the particular module design. We will report on operational experience on the SC injector of the Darmstadt superconducting recirculating linac and ERL (S-DALINAC) showing unwanted effects on beam dynamics and beam quality due to cavity misalignment, such…

Status and recent developments at the polarized-electron injector of the superconducting Darmstadt electron linear accelerator S-DALINAC

2011

At the superconducting Darmstadt electron linac a 100 keV source of polarized electrons has been installed. Major components had been tested prior to installation at an offline teststand. Commissioning of the new source at the S-DALINAC will take place early in 2011. We report on the performance of the teststand, simulations, developments on the laser systems, new radio-frequency components for the S-DALINAC injector, and the status of the implementation of the source.
