Le recenti migrazioni di giovani che viaggiano da soli, arrivati di recente in Italia attraverso la rotta del Mediterraneo, mostrano nuove caratteristiche in termini di profili individuali e di esperienze di connessioni digitali. Essi hanno acquisito nuove competenze, saperi e punti di vista durante il lungo periodo di spostamento e al momento dell’arrivo in Italia. Inoltre, la mobilità è spesso accompagnata da una segregazione fisica e spaziale nei contesti di transito e di arrivo. Recent migrations show unprecedented characteristics in terms of migratory routes, individual profiles of migrants and condition of isolation in arrival contexts. Combining sociolinguistic and linguistic perspectives, the article reconstructs the forms of linguistic contact between local and migrant populations in one of the main gateways to Europe, Palermo (Italy), and the specific conditions of local language acquisition by newcomers. It is argued that notions of (im)mobility and segregation must be included in migration-centred linguistic research

This book is part of a broader study into new migration experiences and, in particular, that of young migrants who have recently arrived in Italy via the Mediterranean route. The main object under investigation is the linguistic and communicative resources available to these migrants at their point of departure and how these have been used and modified during their journey.
