The aim of our study is to deepen our knowledge of consulting companies in France. We seek, essentially, to understand the organizational characteristics of those who show better performance. We were particularly interested in the case of the IT consulting firm. T herefore, we conducted a series of semi- structured interviews with fourteen consulting experts in France over a period of five months. Explaining knowledge intensive firms’ performance through internal factors: evidence from an IT consulting firm

Our research contributes to knowledge-intensive firms research streams. We propose an explanation of their performance based on organizational design theory and the resource-based view. Through a case study on an IT consulting firm in France, we examined the impact of a coherent organizational architecture and a cognitive asset on the performance of the firm. The results show a complementarity between a coherent organizational design and a meticulously formed and maintained human resources asset to explain the performance of an IT consulting firm.

Notre recherche est une contribution à la littérature sur la performance des firmes à forte intensité de connaissances à travers une proposition d’explication par des mécanismes organisationnels. Pour ce, nous avons combiné les apports de la théorie de l’architecture organisationnelle avec l’approche basée sur les ressources. A travers une étude de cas sur le secteur du conseil numérique en France, nous avons examiné l’impact d’une architecture organisationnelle cohérente et un actif cognitif sur la performance d’une entreprise de service numérique.
