Impact of Clinical Features, Cytogenetics, Genetic Mutations and Methylation of CDKN2B and DLC-1 Promoters on Treatment Response to Azacitidine

2019

Introduction : Azacitidine (AZA) is a DNA hypomethylating agent used in myeloid neoplasms, however approximately half of patients show treatment failure or relapse. Last years, several studies have showed that genetic mutations may influence on response and survival of the treated patients. Other biomarkers that have traditionally been associated with the response to AZA are the recovery of the platelet count and the presence of abnormalities in the chromosome 7. Finally, the methylation dynamics of genes promoters could be a useful tool to predict the clinical response. Aim: To assess the predictive value on response to AZA of clinical features, cytogenetics, genetic mutations and the meth…

Effects of taurine on pulmonary responses to antigen in sensitized Brown-Norway rats.

2001

Oxidative stress appears relevant to asthma. Therefore, the effects of the antioxidant taurine (oral, 1 and 3 mmol x kg(-1) x day(-1) for 7 days before challenge) were examined on antigen-induced responses in sensitized Brown-Norway rats. Taurine did not reduce the bronchospasm produced by aerosol antigen but prevented airway hyperreactivity to 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) at 24 h after antigen exposure, and reduced the eosinophils (from 0.178+/-0.038x10(6) to 0.044+/-0.014x10(6)* and 0.048+/-0.013x10(6)* cells ml(-1) in antigen and antigen+taurine 1 or 3 mmol x kg(-1), respectively; *P0.05 vs. antigen), lipid hydroperoxides, and Evans blue dye extravasation in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid. Diversity and dynamic changes of anelloviruses in plasma following allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.

2020

Monitoring of alphatorquevirus (torque teno virus [TTV]) DNA in plasma may prove to be useful to assess the net state of immune competence following allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT). There are scarce data published on the prevalence of beta (torque teno mini virus [TTMV]) and gammatorqueviruses (torque teno midi virus [TTMDV]) and, in particular, on the dynamics of anelloviruses in allo-HSCT patients. Twenty-five allo-HSCT recipients with available plasma specimens obtained before conditioning and after engraftment were included. Degenerated primers targeting a highly conserved genomic sequence across all anelloviruses were designed for genomic amplification an…

Effectiveness of oral N -acetylcysteine in a rat experimental model of asthma

2002

Oxidative stress appears to be relevant to asthma pathogenesis. Therefore, the effectiveness of the antioxidant N -acetylcysteine was examined on antigen-induced pulmonary responses in sensitized Brown-Norway rats. N -acetylcysteine (oral, 1 mmol kg(-1)per day for 7 days before challenge) did not reduce the immediate bronchospasm that followed aerosol antigen exposure but prevented airway hyperreactivity to 5-hydroxytryptamine at 24 h after antigen challenge, and reduced the eosinophils (from 0.178 +/- 0.038 in the absence to 0.064 +/- 0.020 x10(6)cells ml(-1)in the presence of N -acetylcysteine;P< 0.05), and Evans blue dye extravasation in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid. Taurine levels in br…
