Effects of systemically transplanted allogeneic bone marrow multipotent mesenchymal stromal cells on rats' recovery after experimental polytrauma.

Background The aim of this study was to evaluate impact of transplantation of bone marrow mesenchymal stromal cells (BM MMSCs) on recovery after polytrauma and bone fracture repair. Methods A total 27 Wistar-Kyoto rats were divided into three groups (n = 9): normal control (A), polytrauma (B), and polytrauma treated with BM MMSC transplantation (C). The experimental polytrauma model was made on male rats by causing multiple fractures and hemorrhagic shock. At 36 hours 9 days after surgery, nine rats received allogeneic BM MMSCs (1 × 10(6) cells per kilogram) intravenously. The prevalence of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), being a component of metabolic syndrome, has increased (15-27%) in the industrialized world. The deep mechanism of this pathology is not clear, but it is multifactorial. There is a huge amount of food supplements and medicines with hepatoprotective effect on the market, but the NAFLD problem is far from being resolved. Hepatoprotective products have to provide wide spectra of biological effects, including antioxidant, hypolipidemic, anti-inflammatory action. Plant material screening was performed to study anti-Helicobacter pylori activity in vitro using an agar diffusion method on Columbia blood agar. 33 substances, juices and plant extracts and 35 of their combinations were tested. Quince (Cydonia oblonga) juice demonstrated the strongest anti-H. pylori activity followed by cranberry juice. Con-centrated apple juice, plum, red currant, black chokeberry, raspberry and bilberry juice also showed significant activity. Green tea and apple pomace extract as well as sweet flag rhizome, ginger and wild bergamot extract, cherry syrup, red beet juice and whey did not exhibit anti-Helicobacter activity.
