Learning to live together: a challenge for schools located in contexts of social vulnerability
Currently, there are many educational centres that demonstrate the need to promote initiatives to improve coexistence at school at the international level, especially in those located in contexts of social vulnerability. A socio-educational programme has been developed, applied and evaluated at a Singular Education Action Centre (Centro de Acción Educativa Singular - C.A.E.S) in the city of Valencia (Spain). To ascertain the programme's impact and possible generalization to other contexts, a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest design with a control group was used. Information was collected from 297 students and 54 teachers based on questionnaires assessing coexistence at school. The results…
Mediation as a Process for the Management of Conflict and the Improvement of Coexistence in Educational Centres. A Study Based on the Perceptions of Secondary School Students
Abstract School mediation is a strategy which is increasingly being implemented in a greater number of educational centres because of all its benefits. Nevertheless, the studies aimed at knowing the impact of mediation are s…
The Challenge of Coexistence in Socially Vulnerable Schools
Abstract Society in general and schools in particular continue to express their concerns with regard to the many challenges posed nowadays by living in a globalized world, where learning to coexist involves knowing oneself and those around us. The study presented here has been conducted in two differentiated, but complementary, phases. During the first phase a documen…

<p class="AbstractText">Learning to coexist continues to be one of the challenges faced by the current educational system, especially for those schools located in contexts at risk of social exclusion where the violence rate increases on a daily basis. The main aim sought by the present study consists in assessing the impact of a program developed at an educational center located in a vulnerable neighborhood of the city of Valencia (Spain). It is a quasi-experimental, pretest-posttest research with a control group that involved a total of 109 teachers and students. It deserves to be highlighted that this paper forms part of a broader research initiative, for which reason the results ob…
