Expression of T-cadherin in tumor cells influences invasive potential of human hepatocellular carcinoma

Overexpression of T-cadherin (T-cad) transcripts occurs in approximately 50% of human hepatocellular carcinomas (HCCs). To elucidate T-cad functions in HCC, we examined T-cad protein expression in normal and tumoral human livers and hepatoma cell lines and investigated its influence on invasive potential of HCC using RNA interference silencing of T-cad expression in Mahlavu cells. Whereas T-cad expression was restricted to endothelial cells (EC) from large blood vessels in normal livers, it was up-regulated in sinusoidal EC from 8/15 invasive HCCs. Importantly, in three of them (38%) T-cad was detected in tumor cells within regions in which E-cadherin expression was absent. Among six hepato…

Guidelines for the use and interpretation of assays for monitoring autophagy (3rd edition)

Seuls les 100 premiers auteurs dont les auteurs INRA ont été entrés dans la notice. La liste complète des auteurs et de leurs affiliations est accessible sur la publication.; International audience; In 2008 we published the first set of guidelines for standardizing research in autophagy. Since then, research on this topic has continued to accelerate, and many new scientists have entered the field. Our knowledge base and relevant new technologies have also been expanding. Accordingly, it is important to update these guidelines for monitoring autophagy in different organisms. Various reviews have described the range of assays that have been used for this purpose. Nevertheless, there continues…

Outcomes of Patients With Advanced NSCLC From the Intergroupe Francophone de Cancérologie Thoracique Biomarkers France Study by KRAS Mutation Subtypes

Abstract Introduction KRAS mutations are detected in 20% to 30% of NSCLC. However, KRAS mutation subtypes may differently influence the outcome of patients with advanced NSCLC. Methods In the Biomarkers France study, 4894 KRAS mutations (26.2%) were detected in 4634 patients from the 17,664 enrolled patients with NSCLC. Survival and treatment data on noncurative stage III to IV NSCLC were available for 901 patients. First- and second-line treatment effects on progression-free survival and overall survival were analyzed according to the KRAS mutations subtype. Results Over 95% of patients with KRAS mutation were smokers or former smokers who were white (99.5%), presenting with adenocarcinoma…
