Context-Aware RF-Energy Harvesting for IoT Networks
Energy Harvesting plays a crucial role in improving the operational lifetime of IoT devices. The deployment of dedicated RF-transmitters helps in sufficient energy propagation to the sensor nodes of IoT networks. Also, energy harvesting using the deployment of such RF-transmitters is a challenging issue. In this work, two methods are proposed for the optimal placement of RF-transmitters for efficient energy harvesting in wireless sensor networks. The proposed context-aware RF-energy harvesting considers different network performance parameters such as energy-hole information, and data routing information. RF-transmitter deployment is achieved using network connectivity information in the fi…
SleepXAI: An explainable deep learning approach for multi-class sleep stage identification
AbstractExtensive research has been conducted on the automatic classification of sleep stages utilizing deep neural networks and other neurophysiological markers. However, for sleep specialists to employ models as an assistive solution, it is necessary to comprehend how the models arrive at a particular outcome, necessitating the explainability of these models. This work proposes an explainable unified CNN-CRF approach (SleepXAI) for multi-class sleep stage classification designed explicitly for univariate time-series signals using modified gradient-weighted class activation mapping (Grad-CAM). The proposed approach significantly increases the overall accuracy of sleep stage classification …
Clustering-Assisted 3D Beamforming for Throughput Maximization in mmWave Networks
Beamforming schemes have been widely used to improve network throughput in 5G mmWave networks. However, 3D beamforming schemes have hereto not been investigated in this context. In this work, a cluster-assisted 3D beamforming scheme is proposed to optimize the downtilt angle for network coverage and throughput maximization. User Equipment (UEs) are clustered based on inter-user and the inter-cluster distances. The interference is accounted from the adjacent clusters and thus frequency resources can be assigned to the non-adjacent clusters. Optimal downtilt angles are obtained for every cluster to maximize the throughput while considering the interference from adjacent clusters. 3D beam patt…
A Cluster based Sensor-Selection Scheme for Energy-Efficient Agriculture Sensor Networks
Improving the energy-efficiency of remotely deployed sensor nodes in agriculture wireless networks is very challenging due to a lack of access to energy grid. Network clustering and limiting the amount of sensor data are among the various methods to improve the lifetime of these sensor nodes. In this work, an optimal sensor-selection scheme is proposed to improve the Quality of Service in clustered agriculture networks. the proposed method selects a limited number of sensor nodes to be active in each cluster. It considers the estimator performance while selecting limited sensor nodes for environmental monitoring. the optimal sensor-selection process considers the information of remaining en…
