Effects of 3rd-harmonic voltage content on dielectric losses of solid insulating materials

Dielectric losses in solid insulating materials subjected to voltages containing 3rd harmonics are studied. By simple theoretical analysis, some curves are obtained showing the behaviour of the ratio between the dielectric losses in the distorted steady state and in a reference sinusoidal steady state, against 3rd-harmonic content. The reference sinusoidal voltage amplitudes were selected in two different ways; namely, such as to have either peak value or effective value equal to those of distorted waveform.Separate effects of harmonic content and of effective value of the applied voltage are shown through the correspondence of every 3rd-harmonic phase angle. Percentage differences between …

MORBIDITY OF SALIVARY GLAND DIGITAL SIALOGRAPHY USING A NON-IONIC DIMERIC CONTRAST MEDIUM

Sialography is considered a low invasive procedure, due to cannulation of salivary duct orifice. The aim of this study was to evaluate the morbidity of sialography using a nonionic dimeric contrast medium. METHODS: A questionnaire was proposed to 90 patients who underwent parotid and submandibular sialography to reveal related symptoms as: pain, swelling, impairment to daily activities and taste alteration. Pain and swelling intensity was assessed using a visual analogue scale (VAS). RESULTS: Fifty-two out of ninety questionnaires were returned. Sialography was performed in 30/52 patients in the submandibular gland, 22/52 in the parotid gland. Pain during sialography was complained by 28/52…

Multifocal biliary cystadenocarcinoma of the liver: CT and pathologic findings.

Biliary cystadenocarcinoma is a rare tumor that originates from the hepatobiliary epithelium. Although this tumor can affect any portion of the biliary tree, intrahepatic location is more common. It is usually a slow growing tumor and often asymptomatic until it reaches a considerable size. The lesion is most often solitary and large when discovered; multiple lesions or metastases within the liver are very rare. A 63-year-old man was referred to our institute for weight loss, abdominal discomfort, worsening bulky symptoms in the right upper abdominal quadrant, and an increase in serum aminotransferases that had been present for several months. Spiral CT of the abdomen demonstrated two lesio…
