ABSTRACT In 1964, Glauber Rocha wrote and directed a movie “Black God, White Devil”. It was in the same year that Brazil suffered military coup. Resumen: Glauber Rocha propone dos películas que reflexionan sobre la distribución social y el sistema social regente en Brasil, si bien los orígenes de las películas no son similares. Las concepciones estéticas son distintas, las relaciones entre el cangaço (movimiento revolucionario del nordeste de Brasil), mesianismo y el personaje Antonio das Mortes son abordadas en diferentes momentos sociales e históricos. La película Dios y el Diablo en la tierra del sol, de 1964, se integra en el contexto de la estética del hambre, y es signo del instrumento revolucionario, vanguardista de una visión cinematográfica anterior al golpe militar.
