The notion of innovation is associated with abundant literature presenting a variety of viewpoints, some complementary and others contradictory. In this literature the concept of innovation is often associated with novelty. Elsewhere the same reference to novelty is used to describe creativity, "the creative process is seen as the sequence of thoughts and actions that leads to a novel, adaptive production" (Lubart, 2010). The confusion is further maintained by the fact that research in the fields of creativity and innovation address similar questions.
