Ethane-Bridged Zinc-Porphyrin Dimers in Langmuir-Shäfer Thin Films: Structural and Spectroscopic Properties

This work reports on the structural and spectroscopic properties of ethane-bridged Zn porphyrin dimers (1) in Langmuir-Scha¨fer (LS) thin films by combining scanning force microscopy (SFM) with film balance, UV-vis absorption, fluorescence, and nanosecond laser flash photolysis measurements. Results show that depending on the surface pressure the Langmuir films of pure 1 can be arranged in two different condensed phases, whereas SFM of the LS films shows characteristic fractal networks constituted by nanoscopic aggregates. The spectral findings agree with a picture in which 1 is apparently present in the anti conformation but aggregated in a sort of H-type structure whose optical features r…

New hydrogel matrices containing an anti-inflammatory agent. Evaluation of in vitro release and photoprotective activity.

In the present work. the preparation and characterization of hydrogels based on alpha,beta-polyaspartylhydrazide (PAHy) chemically crosslinked with ethyleneglycol diglycidylether (EGDGE) containing Tolmetin sodium salt, are reported. In particular, these samples have been prepared both as water swellable microparticles and as gels at two different crosslinking degrees. The incorporation of Tolmetin sodium salt in PAHy-EGDGE microparticles has been performed after the crosslinking reaction by a soaking procedure or during the formation of the network. The influence of drug loading procedure on Tolmetin release has been evaluated by performing in vitro release study in simulated gastrointesti…

Structure and Photochemical Behavior of the Cyclodextrin Inclusion Complexes of the Benzoylthiophene-Derived Drugs Tiaprofenic Acid (=5-Benzoyl-α-methylthiophene-2-acetic Acid) and Suprofen (=α-Methyl-4-(2-thienylcarbonyl)benzeneacetic Acid)

The effect of β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) on the excited-state reactivity of the two benzoylthiophene derivatives, tiaprofenic acid (TPA; 2) and suprofen (SPF; 3) in their carboxylate forms is studied. The presence of β-cyclodextrin does not affect the nature of the photoproduced transients and the photoproducts, but increases the photodegradation quantum yields of both drugs. The efficiency of the photodecarboxylation process is enhanced. This effect is rationalized in the light of the inclusion of 2 and 3 in the β-CD cavity, affecting the energy of the lowest excited states of the drugs. The structure of the complexes is determined by induced circular dichroism, and molecular-mechanics and dyna…
