Between constitution and interpretation: Identity as history

2015

The paper focuses on the possibilities to constitute meaning in the „borderline- situations“ (Jaspers) of the social sphere, such as the loss of validity of orientation within and experience of reality in the socially shared structures of the lifeworld. On the one hand, I will refer to A. Schutz’ and his constitution-analysis of foreign understanding and of shared meaning; on the other hand, I bear onto I. Entangled into Histories or the Narrative Grounds of Multiple Realities

2013

What is the relation between the imaginary and the real constituting our paramount reality? The article approaches the cleavage between fiction and facts by interrogating the genesis of meaning as this genesis is brought about by fictitious works of memory and commemoration. Narrative structures prove to be the intersubjective ground for comprehensive action insofar narration mediates between past and future, and thus gives way to appresent the non-present in collective actions. Further on, narratively we are bound to life world and are indebted to it with an ethical strain of our Self as we gain our identity exactly by narration.

Hermeneutics of Transcendence. Understanding and Communication at the Limits of Experience

2013

When access to shared realities is denied or blocked as in extreme situations that transcend everyday experience, a phenomenological-hermeneutic problem arises between the solitary Ego and its socially constituted meaning. With no action space to prove one’s own reality there lacks a counter-space to transcend the ambiguously irreal reality in order to perspectivize, to understand and reflect on it. Hermeneutics of transcendence analyse the experience of borders and limitations – not starting with an interrogation of constitutive grounds of shared social meaning but with structures to regain meaning in the socio-pathological structures of life excluding a Self from horizons of shared meanin…
