Ionic Liquid Gels: Tunable and Multifaceted Materials

Materials based on ionic liquids retain properties of solvent components, like low vapor pressure, high thermal stability and structure tunability. The latter allows changing properties of materials by making small variations in the cation or anion structure, opening the way to a plethora of different applications. In this context, ionic liquid gels can represent a challenge especially if they are obtained from gelation of ionic liquid binary mixtures or of organic salts in ionic liquids. In the framework of our interest in studying ionic liquids properties and applications, in the last few years, we have addressed our attention to the obtainment of ionic liquid gels.1 We have deeply invest…

A multiscale method for gamma/h discrimination in extensive air showers

We present a new method for the identification of extensive air showers initiated by different primaries. The method uses the multiscale concept and is based on the analysis of multifractal behaviour and lacunarity of secondary particle distributions together with a properly designed and trained artificial neural network. The separation technique is particularly suited for being applied when the topology of the particle distribution in the shower front is as largely detailed as possible. Here, our method is discussed and applied to a set of fully simulated vertical showers in the experimental framework of ARGO-YBJ, taking advantage of both the space and time distribution of the detected sec…

Effects of plant type and calcium cyanamide dosage on yield, nutritional and nutraceutical traits of strawberry in Sicily

In the Mediterranean area, strawberry is usually set up by using bare-rooted plants, fresh plug plants or cold-stored plants, achieving different fruit ripening earliness and crop performance. Strawberry plants can be combined with various cultivation practices to improve strawberry fruit production and quality. Calcium cyanamide (CaCN2) is well-acknowledged as a fertilizer used in the horticulture sector. Its use can enhance the soil fertility, prevent soil acidification, and improve crop production and fruit quality. This work evaluated the effects of different pre-transplant CaCN2 dosages on bare-rooted plants, fresh plug plants or cold-stored plants. Coldstored plants with 400 kg ha(-1)…
