Monocyte and lymphocyte apoptosis resistance in acute and chronic brucellosis and its possible implications in clinical management.

2003

This study evaluated the level of susceptibility of monocytes and lymphocytes to spontaneously induced and CH11-induced apoptosis in 16 patients with Brucella infection. The expression of some immunological and apoptotic markers was evaluated. Before therapy, monocytes showed a high level of resistance to spontaneously induced or CH11-induced apoptosis in all patients. In patients with acute infection, this resistance persisted for 10-20 days after treatment was initiated, then decreased; in chronically infected patients, it persisted after 45 days of treatment. Lymphocytes were also more resistant to CH 11-induced apoptosis. The level of activated CD8++ T lymphocytes was high in patients w…

Analysis of human dysplastic haematopoiesis in long-term bone marrow culture

1989

In this paper we have analysed the behaviour of myelodysplastic marrow in a long-term bone marrow liquid culture system (LTBMC) from eleven patients with myelodysplastic syndromes with regard to cellularity, day-7 and day-14 CFU-GM growth, cluster formation, adherent cells and CFU-F formation. An altered CFU-GM pattern was found in 64% of cases at diagnosis, while normal growth was seen in the remaining cases, all of which were affected by refractory anaemia. The levels of CFU-GM, as well as cellularity, were reduced in myelodysplastic marrows compared to normal controls over the whole duration of LTBMCs. Cases with a normal CFU-GM level at diagnosis also showed pathological behaviour when …

The moderating role of personality in the relationship between temporal perspectives and facebook addiction

2020

In the present paper, we tested the hypothesis that neuroticism moderates the relationship between past-negative or present-fatalistic temporal perspectives and Facebook addiction. A sample of 233 Facebook users (Female: 66%, mean age: 21.4 years) filled self-reports measures of temporal perspective, personality traits, and Facebook Addiction. Results at two moderation models showed that only past-negative significantly predicts Facebook addiction through neuroticism's moderation effect. Individuals with a negative temporal orientation to the past, who are also characterized by a high neuroticism level, were more addicted to Facebook. Peculiar associations between past-negative temporal per…
