Graphic readings and digital configurations: Akragas, Girgenti and Agrigento

The study deals with a graphic analysis of the city of Agrigento through the identification of the territorial, urban and architectural peculiarities that have designed its evolution. Starting from the landscape representations realized since the sixteenth century, the views from the sea by Spannocchi, the glances on the apric territory by Pancrazi, the Hellenic ruins inside the medieval Girgenti by Martorana and the Grand Tour travelers’ productions, the urban transformations of Agrigento are reconstructed starting from the points of view adopted by the draftsmen. L’articolo intende affrontare uno studio iconografico sulle rappresentazioni più emblematiche della città di Agrigento nelle quali i viaggiatori del Grand Tour tentarono di catturare l’essenza di quei luoghi un tempo massima sacralità del culto pagano, successivamente divenuti meta di approfondimento culturale che ispirarono l’immaginazione di disegnatori e letterati giunti in Sicilia, già a partire dal XVII secolo, per completare gli studi universitari e annotare le proprie esperienze suggellandole in quelle che Platone definiva “le forme più alte e più vere di conoscenza: le idee” per poi raccontarle attraverso itinerari grafici.

Questo studio riguarda la lettura grafica di un progetto mai realizzato di Gustavo Pulitzer Finali, una ‘Villa sul mare’, presentato alla Triennale di Monza nel 1930. Il ridisegno del progetto, necessario per la comprensione del pensiero architettonico, mostra come l’architetto triestino sia riuscito a sintetizzare l’architettura navale e quella di terra in un unico organismo plastico. The study proposes an iconographic apparatus with sketches, annotations, schemes and geometric matrices which often accompanies the critical and pragmatic approach of Rosalia La Franca. These graphic and conceptual elements determine the graphic skeleton of her research, through which it is possible to outline the path that from time to time Rosalia La Franca follows to recognize the ‘questionable value of knowledge’.

Planning for sustainable policies aimed at identifying Smart urban spaces is determined by the parameters of Smart Cities model that encourage the production of intelligent building for construction energy efficient. The proposed article analyzes the effectiveness of the passive house in the Mediterranean area, offered by traditional building techniques, proposing a re-reading technology for the detection of a smart design methodology that can lead to the use of technologies with high energy efficiency.

Urban Landscape in the Graphic Representations of the Cathedral of Palermo

The present study offers some reflections on the relationship between the cathedral of Palermo and the urban area in which it insists, regarding the indissoluble link with the landscape aspect that through the history offered a variety of perceptive suggestions, marked by the passage and presence of different dominations. The cognitive storytelling of the cathedral of Palermo is obtained through a graphic study on routes which provided of multiple images keeping the scar of time in the elaboration of orographic sections and perspective views and highlighting the role of perception in this changing combination of architecture and landscape.
