Effects of moclobemide on sexual performance and nocturnal erections in psychogenic erectile dysfunction

Rationale and objectives: We tested the hypothesis that the selective reversible MAO-A inhibitor moclobemide has a specific therapeutic effect on erectile dysfunction independent of its antidepressive properties. Methods: In a double-blind placebo controlled study, 12 male outpatients suffering from psychogenic erectile dysfunction without any other psychiatric disorder were investigated. Based on comprehensive diagnosis before the beginning of the study, organic factors relevant for sexual function were excluded. The treatment period was 8 weeks. Abstract Objective. In irreparable or recurrent vesicovaginal fistulas and cloacal defects following high-dose irradiation therapy for gynecological malignancies, urinary diversion is the last resort to achieve a socially acceptable solution. In a select group of young and tumor-free patients, additional vaginal reconstruction may be indicated. Successful adenovirus-mediated wild-type p53 gene transfer in patients with bladder cancer by intravesical vector instillation.

PURPOSE: To study safety, feasibility, and biologic activity of adenovirus-mediated p53 gene transfer in patients with bladder cancer. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Twelve patients with histologically confirmed bladder cancer scheduled for cystectomy were treated on day 1 with a single intratumoral injection of SCH 58500 (rAd/p53) at cystoscopy at one dose level (7.5 × 1011 particles) or a single intravesical instillation of SCH 58500 with a transduction-enhancing agent (Big CHAP) at three dose levels (7.5 × 1011 to 7.5 × 1013 particles). The effects of phorbol esters on choline phospholipid hydrolysis in heart and brain

The efflux of choline was determined in rat striatal slices, incubated chicken atria and perfused chicken hearts. 4 beta-Phorbol-12 beta,13 alpha-dibutyrate (PDB) and 4 beta-phorbol-12 beta-myristate, 13 alpha-acetate (PMA) were used to stimulate protein kinase C. The other phorbol esters, 4 beta-phorbol-13 alpha-acetate (PAc) and 4 alpha-phorbol-12 beta,13 alpha-didecanoate (4 alpha PDD), known to be inactive, were tested to evaluate the specificity of the responses. PDB markedly enhanced the efflux of choline in all of the three preparations.
