This thesis presents a study on ultra-short pulse propagation at 160-Gb/s in dispersion managed optical fiber lines. In a first part, we describe the experimental design of a SHG-FROG setup able to characterize high repetition rate pulse trains. Secondly, we demonstrate the efficiency of multiple four wave mixing phenomenon for the generation of a 160-GHz pulse train through the compression of a sinusoidal beat-signal. Then, in order to compare the experimental and theoretical results, we present the development of an optical fiber characterization benchtop based on modulational instability. Gold nanowire plasmonic mode photo-thermal modulation at telecom wavelengths

International audience; Thermo-optical switches relying on polymer based plasmonic waveguides have been recently demonstrated for high-bit rate routing. In these devices, the active thermo-optical medium is polymer with a large thermo-optical coefficient. However, so far the role of the thermo-optical properties of the metal sustaining the plasmon mode has not been considered in details. Basée sur une modulation de phase imprimée sur l’onde à analyser, cette technique apporte de plus une amplification virtuelle du niveau du signal. Sources optiques picosecondes entièrement fibrées cadencées à 20 GHz et 40 GHz

National audience; Nous présentons des résultats récents portant sur la génération de trains d'impulsions picosecondes cadencés à 20 et 40 GHz dans la bande C des télécommunications optiques. La technique utilisée repose sur la compression non-linéaire au sein d'une fibre optique d'un battement sinusoïdal généré via un modulateur d'intensité. Les propriétés de stabilité des sources ont été améliorées en gérant la dispersion de la ligne de compression et en y insérant un miroir de Faraday. Un signal de haute qualité à 160 Gbit/s a également été généré en codant et en multiplexant temporellement une source d'impulsions à 40 GHz présentant un faible rapport cyclique.
