Il Manifesto nasce dall’esperienza di un convegno organizzato a Palermo, da Giulia de Spuches, dal titolo: E l’Europa disumanizzò sé stessa. È un appello alle geografie mediterranee militanti che vuole aprire uno spazio di dialogo per ripensare criticamente il Mediterraneo, con l’obiettivo di produrre un discorso contro-egemonico e critico uscendo così dalle gabbie retoriche imposte dagli stati-nazione e dell’UE sul tema delle migrazioni.

Haunted Cartographies: toward a postcolonial gyne-a-logy of mapmaking

Recalling Jardine’s definition of ‘gynesis’ (1985) which, etymologically, means ‘woman-process’ as the ‘putting into discourse of “woman”’ and strategically combining it with the Foucauldian sense of genealogy (1979), the aim of this paper is to re-vision and re-envision through the lens of feminist and postcolonial critical theory and visual arts the problematics inherent to what has been named the ‘cartographic reason’ (Farinelli, 2009). MAPS OUT OF PLACE: DISPLACING CARTOGRAPHY IN THE REALM OF CONTEMPORARY ART

As Brian Harley wrote: “maps are too important to be left to cartographers alone” (2001: 239). Not for nothing maps have played a pivotal role as weapons of imperialism, as discursive formations disciplining the link between academic practice and political power and acting as social hieroglyphics in the words of Marx.
