The increase of lone-parent families is a common phenomenon across Europe. Lone parent families have been the focus of extensive research as these families are in a vulnerable position in society. In this chapter we firstly explore the proportion of lone-parent families across the European Union; secondly, the employment patterns of lone parents; and thirdly, we look at the employment rate by education of the lone parent in lone-parent families in the European Union. Tutkimuksen tavoitteena oli suomalaisen aikasarja-aineiston avulla selvittää työelämän laadun muutosta eri palkansaajaryhmissä, erityisesti kiinnittäen huomiota eri sosioekonomisessa asemassa olevien nais- ja miestyöntekijöiden kokemuksiin. Lisäksi tavoitteenamme oli peilata tuloksia kansainväliseen työelämän laadusta käytyyn keskusteluun: koskevatko kansainvälisissä tutkimuksissa havaitut työn laadun muutostrendit suomalaista työelämää? Defining the accessibility of physical activity : Tracing the social dimension

The promotion of the physical activity (PA) of citizens has traditionally focused on improving spatial accessibility, especially in municipal administrations. However, research evidence indicates that proximity to PA environments is not a sufficient condition for increased PA. This article presents a broader model of the dimensions of the accessibility of PA, developed in cooperation between researchers and the authorities of two cities in Finland. This study investigated the effects of the constraints on ISF among residents of two low socioeconomic status suburbs in Finland. Huono-osaisuus työmarkkinoilla kasautuu perheisiin. Näin ollen voidaan kärjistetysti sanoa perheen olevan joillekin ongelma. Työttömyyden kasautumisen ongelman alkua on vaikea osoittaa, mutta kyse ei ole yksinomaan ympäristötekijöistä kuten paikalliset työmarkkinat. Perhe olennaisena sosialisaation ja identiteetin muotoutumisen viitekehyksenä levittää tavalla tai toisella myös työttömyysriskiä, toteaa Ilkka Virmasalo väitöstutkimuksessaan. Virmasalo tarkasteli tutkimuksessaan kotitalouteen ja perheeseen liittyvien tekijöiden sekä työttömyyden keskinäistä riippuvuutta erilaisissa taloudellisissa olosuhteissa vuosien 1980-1995 välillä.

Liikuntatieteen ja maantieteen osaamista yhdistäneestä Yhdenvertainen liikunnallinen lähiö (YLLI) -hankkeessa kertyi tietoa Helsingin Kontulan ja Jyväskylän Huhtasuon liikuntapaikkojen käytöstä ja käyttäjistä. Samalla karttui kokemuksia eri mittausmenetelmistä. Käyttöä on niin laskureille, havainnoinnille, somedatalle kuin kyselyille. nonPeerReviewed
