Molecular spin qubits based on lanthanide ions encapsulated in cubic polyoxopalladates: design criteria to enhance quantum coherence

2015

The family of cubic polyoxopalladates encapsulating lanthanide ions [LnPd12(AsPh)8O32]5− where Ln = Tb, Dy, Ho, Er and Tm, is magnetically characterised and theoretically described by the Radial Effective Charge (REC) model and a phenomenological crystal-field approach using the full-hamiltonian, in the SIMPRE and CONDON packages respectively. The lack of anisotropy generates an extraordinarily rich energy level structure at low temperatures, which allows us to study how such a structure is affected by lifting the strict cubic symmetry and/or by applying an external magnetic field. In particular, we will explore the possibility of using these cubic Ln complexes as spin-qubits. We will focus…

pH‐Controlled Assemblies of Dimethyltin‐Functionalized 9‐Tungstophosphates with Guanidinium as Structure‐Directing Cation

2010

Aqueous reaction of (CH 3 ) 2 SnCl 2 with Na 9 [A-α-PW 9 O 34 ] in a 3:1 ratio with [C(NH 2 ) 3 ] + as structure-directing agent resulted in three distinct assemblies of dimethyltin-functionalized tungstophosphates depending on the pH: [{(CH 3 ) 2 -Sn(H 2 O)}{(CH 3 ) 2 Sn}(A-α-PW 9 O 34 )] 5- ( 1 ) at pH = 4.5; [{(CH 3 ) 2 -Sn(H 2 O) 2 }{(CH 3 ) 2 Sn(H 2 O)} 2 (A-α-PW 9 O 34 )] 3- (2) at pH = 3.0; and [{(CH 3 ) 2 Sn(H 2 O)} 3 (A-α-PW 9 O 34 )] 3- (3) at pH = 2.0. All three compounds have been characterized in the solid-state by elemental and thermal analyses, infrared spectroscopy and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The [A-α-PW 9 O 34 ] 9- trilacunary fragments have three {(CH 3 ) 2 Sn} 2…

Copper-, cobalt-, and manganese-containing 17-tungsto-2-germanates.

2009

The sandwich-type tungstogermanates [Cu(3)(H(2)O)(B-beta-GeW(9)O(33)(OH))(B-beta-GeW(8)O(30)(OH))](12-) (1), [Co(H(2)O)(2){Co(3)(B-beta-GeW(9)O(33)(OH))(B-beta-GeW(8)O(30)(OH))}(2)](22-) (2), and [Mn(H(2)O)(2){Mn(3)(H(2)O)(B-beta-GeW(9)O(33)(OH))(B-beta-GeW(8)O(30)(OH))}(2)](22-) (3) were synthesized and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, elemental analysis, thermogravimetric analysis, and infrared spectroscopy. Polyanion 1 is composed of two nonequivalent Keggin units, (B-beta-GeW(8)O(31)) and (B-beta-GeW(9)O(34)), linked to each other via three copper(II) ions in such a way that there is a plane of symmetry passing through both Ge atoms and the unique Cu atom, resulting in…

Selective Crystallization of Dimeric vs. Monomeric Dimethyltin‐Containing Tungstoarsenates(III) and ‐antimonates(III) with the Guanidinium Cation

2009

The use of guanidinium cations [C(NH 2 ) 3 ] + as crystallizing agents allowed us to selectively isolate the dimeric [{(CH 3 ) 2 -Sn(H20)} 4 {(CH 3 ) 2 Sn}(B-β-XW 9 O 33 ) 2 ] 8- (1, X = As III ; 2, X = Sb III ) polyanions from the reaction of (CH 3 ) 2 SnCl 2 with Na 9 [B-a-XW 9 O 33 ) (3:1 ratio) in water at pH 3. This reaction is known to give the monomeric [{(CH 3 ) 2 Sn(H 2 O) 2 } 3 (B-β-XW 9 O 33 )] 3- polyanions as the major species. Polyanions 1 and 2 are composed of one octahedral trans-(CH 3 ) 2 SnO 4 moiety that bridges two trilacunary [B-β-XW 9 O 33 ] 9- Keggin subunits further decorated by two structurally nonequivalent {(CH 3 ) 2 Sn} 2+ functionalities each: one distorted octa…

Cobalt-Containing Silicotungstate Sandwich Dimer [{Co3(B-β-SiW9O33(OH))(B-β-SiW8O29(OH)2)}2]22-

2005

The 6-cobalt-substituted [{Co3(B-beta-SiW9O33(OH))(B-beta-SiW8O29(OH)2)}2]22- has been characterized by IR and UV-vis spectroscopy, elemental analysis, magnetic studies, electrochemistry, and gel filtration chromatography. A single-crystal X-ray analysis was carried out on K10Na12[{Co3(B-beta-SiW9O33(OH))(B-beta-SiW8O29(OH)2)}2].49H2O (KNa-1), which crystallizes in the monoclinic system, space group P2(1)/n, with a=19.9466(8) A, b=24.6607(10) A, c=34.0978(13) A, beta=102.175(1) degrees, and Z=2. Polyanion 1 represents a novel class of asymmetric sandwich-type polyanions. It contains three cobalt ions, which are encapsulated between an unprecedented (B-beta-SiW9O34) fragment and a (B-beta-Si…

Self-assembly and alterable relaxivity of an organic cation-encapsulated gadolinium-containing polyoxometalate

2012

A new amphiphilic molecule bearing poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) and quaternary ammonium group, was designed and synthesized to encapsulate paramagnetic Gd(III)-containing polyoxometalate (Gd-POM) through electrostatic interaction for obtaining a water-soluble organic-inorganic hybrid building block based on POM. The yielding organic cation-encapsulated Gd-POM (OCEP-Gd) complex exhibited water-solubility and amphiphility, leading to the spontaneous self-assembly into a regular vesicular structure with PEO chains towards water phase and POM units locating at the middle. The vesicular aggregate which has a regular monolayer structure, was further studied by means of dynamic light scattering, tra…
