The site of Cagny on the "Plaine de Caen" was excavated from February to July 2008 and was the first site in Lower Normandy to reap the benefits of large sacle mechanical earth moving, the entire site being revealed over 13.6 acres. Beyond the two enclosures identified during a prior archaeological evaluation, this strategy, prescribed by the Ministry of Culture and Communication's archeological service in Lower-Normandy, resulted in the detection of unexpected remains and occupations. International audience; Gien castle is a listed monument of French architectural heritage. Today it houses the National Museum of Hunting and its collection. Organised visits to the site have traditionally lacked any clear mention of the castle’s historical background. Recently, however, archaeological excavations and building analysis in 2011–2015 produced a wealth of new knowledge about the castle’s medieval origins and history, and about its relationship to its landscape. International audience; This paper deals with recently obtained archaeobotanical and archaeozoological results obtained from Gallo-Roman sites in the Moselle valley between Metz (Divodurum mediomatricorum) and Thionville and the adjacent areas. The results deriving from recent rescue excavations are giving evidence of Gallo-Roman agricultural practices in a time frame from the 2nd to the late 4th c. AD.
