Clinical and economic impact of pharmacist interventions in an ambulatory hematology–oncology department

Objectives To evaluate clinical and financial impact of pharmacist interventions in an ambulatory adult hematology–oncology department. Methods All cancer patients receiving a first injectable immuno- and/or chemotherapy regimen were included in this prospective study over a one-year period. The clinical impact of pharmacist interventions made by two clinical pharmacists was rated using the Clinical Economic and Organizational tool. Financial impact was calculated through cost savings and cost avoidance. Main results: Five hundred and fifty-eight patients were included. Diagnosis of B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia (B-CLL) is usually straightforward, involving clinical, immunophenotypic (Matutes score), and (immuno)genetic analyses (to refine patient prognosis for treatment). Abstract Blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm (BPDCN) is a rare CD4+/CD56+ hematological malignancy with aggressive clinical course and poor prognosis. Histologically, BPDCN is characterized by a diffuse, monomorphous infiltration of cutaneous, subcutaneous, and sometimes other tissues such as lymph nodes and bone marrow, by medium-sized neoplastic cells with blastoid morphology. Typically, there is absence of lymphocytic infiltrate. Abstract Ibrutinib, obinutuzumab, and venetoclax demonstrate synergy in preclinical models of mantle cell lymphoma (MCL). OAsIs (NCT02558816), a single-arm multicenter prospective phase 1/2 trial, aimed to determine the maximum tolerated dose of venetoclax in combination with fixed doses of ibrutinib and obinutuzumab, in relapsed MCL patients. Leucocytosis and thrombosis at diagnosis are associated with poor survival in polycythaemia vera: a population-based study of 327 patients

Three hundred and twenty-seven patients from two population-based cohorts with an established diagnosis of polycythaemia vera were studied for prognostic risk factors for survival and leukaemia in a long-term survey. The relative survival (RS) was 72% and 46% at 10 and 20 years respectively, from the time of diagnosis. Multivariate analysis identified age >70 years, white blood cell count >13 × 10(9) /l and thrombo-embolism at diagnosis as independent risk factors. Patients with two or three of these factors had a 10 year RS of 26%, compared with 59% and 84% in patients with one and no risk factors, respectively. Non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) represents a heterogeneous group of diseases that are known to carry a considerable risk of second primary cancer (SPC). However, little attention has been paid to SPC risk assessment according to NHL subtypes. Data from 10 French population-based cancer registries were used to establish a cohort of 7546 patients with a first diagnosis of NHL (eight subtypes) between 1989 and 2004. Standardized incidence ratios (SIRs) of metachronous SPC were estimated. Aim To investigate the respective influence of software tool and total metabolic tumor volume (TMTV0) calculation method on prognostic stratification of baseline 2-deoxy-2-[18F]fluoro-D-glucose positron emission tomography ([18F]FDG-PET) in newly diagnosed Hodgkin lymphoma (HL).
