ABSTRACT: Iconology , the important book of allegories and attributes compiled by Cesare Ripa in 1593, was a major source for understanding the symbolic art of the culture of the period. Its application affected the visual practice of arts and architecture. In Pajara (Fuerteventura. Canary Islands), there is a temple whose main facade draws on symbols that seem to be influenced by Ripa's work: elements of Nature and zoomorphic, animistic and material representations with a decided spiritual and cosmogonic charge.
