In vivo comparative study of the effects of using the enamel matrix derivative and/or photobiomodulation on the repair of bone defects

Made available in DSpace on 2022-05-01T13:57:26Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2022-01-01 Background: The repair of bone defects has been the subject of many studies that have shown inconclusive results as to what is the best bone substitute. Material and Methods: Bone defects (0 2 mm) were induced on the tibia of seventy-two rats, which were distributed into the following four groups/treatments (n=18 each): Control: no treatment; EMD: enamel matrix derived protein; PBM: photobiomodulation therapy (660 nm, 0,035 W, 60 s); EMD + PBM: EMD and immediate treatment with PBM (660 nm, 0,035 W, 60 s). Six animals from each group were euthanized after 10, 30 and 60 days. Histologi…

The Use of Heart Rate Variability in Assessing Precompetitive Stress in High-Standard Judo Athletes

The objective of this study is to examine the sensitivity to and changes in heart rate variability (HRV) in stressful situations before judo competitions and to observe the differences among judo athletes according to their competitive standards in both official and unofficial competitions. 24 (10 male and 14 female) national- and international-standard athletes were evaluated. Each participant answered the Revised Competitive State Anxiety Inventory (CSAI-2R) and their HRV was recorded both during an official and unofficial competition. The MANOVA showed significant main effects of the athlete's standard and the type of competition in CSAI-2R, in HRV time domain, in HRV frequency domain an…

Angular dependence of the emissivity of bare soils in the thermal infrared

Emissivity is one of the main factors to take into account when studying processes that take place in the Earth surface by using radiance measurements in the thermal infrared, such as surface energy balance, land surface temperature (LST) retrieval, classification of different types of surface, etc. For this reason it is necessary to study the factors that can influence the emissivity. The present work evaluates one of these factors: the variation of the emissivity with the zenithal observation angle over bare soils, specifically the variation of the relative emissivity calculated from measurements of radiances, almost simultaneous, at nadir (0o) and at a certain angle (Θ). The measurements…
