Spins and Magnetic Moments of $^{49}$K and $^{51}$K: establishing the 1/2$^+$ and 3/2$^+$ level ordering beyond $N$ = 28

The ground-state spins and magnetic moments of $^{49,51}$K have been measured using bunched-beam high-resolution collinear laser spectroscopy at ISOLDE-CERN. For $^{49}$K a ground-state spin $I = 1/2$ was firmly established. The observed hyperfine structure of $^{51}$K requires a spin $I > 1/2$ and from its magnetic moment $\mu(^{51}\text{K})= +0.5129(22)\, \mu_N$ a spin/parity $I^\pi=3/2^+$ with a dominant $\pi 1d_{3/2}^{-1}$ hole configuration was deduced. This establishes for the first time the re-inversion of the single-particle levels and illustrates the prominent role of the residual monopole interaction for single-particle levels and shell evolution.

First Evidence of Axial Shape Asymmetry and Configuration Coexistence in $^{74}$Zn: Suggestion for a Northern Extension of the $N=40$ Island of Inversion

International audience; The excited states of $N=44$$^{74}$Zn were investigated via $\gamma$-ray spectroscopy following $^{74}$Cu $\beta$ decay. By exploiting $\gamma$-$\gamma$ angular correlation analysis, the $2_2^+$, $3_1^+$, $0_2^+$ and $2_3^+$ states in $^{74}$Zn were firmly established. The $\gamma$-ray branching and $E2/M1$ mixing ratios for transitions de-exciting the $2_2^+$, $3_1^+$ and $2_3^+$ states were measured, allowing for the extraction of relative $B(E2)$ values. In particular, the $2_3^+ \to 0_2^+$ and $2_3^+ \to 4_1^+$ transitions were observed for the first time. The results show excellent agreement with new microscopic large-scale shell-model calculations, and are disc…

Discovery of a long-lived low-lying isomeric state in Ga-80

Collinear laser spectroscopy was performed on the $^{80}\mathrm{Ga}$ isotope at ISOLDE, CERN. A low-lying isomeric state with a half-life much greater than $200$ ms was discovered. The nuclear spins and moments of the ground and isomeric states and the isomer shift are discussed. Probable spins and parities are assigned to both long-lived states (${3}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ and ${6}^{\ensuremath{-}}$) deduced from a comparison of the measured moments to shell-model calculations.
