Biological Description of 109 Cases of Blastic Plasmacytoid Dendritic Cell Neoplasm (BPDCN) from the French Network of BPDCN

Abstract Blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm is a clonal disease derived from precursors of plasmacytoid dendritic cells (pDC). It is a rare neoplasm involving the skin which may or may not be associated from the outset with a leukemic component. The disease invariably progresses to aggressive leukemic dissemination, leading to a differential diagnosis with acute leukemia. In 2004, we set up a French network to recruit biological data at diagnosis. Diagnosis was according to recommendations (Swerdlow et al, 2008), with, in addition, a mandatory panel of pDC markers (Garnache-Ottou et al, 2009) detected by flow cytometry or by immunohistochemistry on infiltrated blood, bone marrow o…

End-user Need based Creation of a Medical Device: An Experience of Co-design to Struggle Pathological Scars

International audience; Scar is a common visible mark of human tissue healing. Sometimes pathological phenomena lead to abnormal hypertrophic or keloid scars, with evolutions varying depending on different conditions: origin of the tissue barrier disruption, concerned body area, or ethnic origin. Based on these statements, care procedures have been developed to avoid aesthetical or functional impairments: drugs injection, surgery, cryotherapy or mechanical compression. The story will relate the matching of a multi-disciplinary team that focused on covering an unmet need for ear lobe keloid treatment, providing patients an optimal and holistic care. The benefits researched lied in improving …

How do adolescents regulate distress according to attachment style? A combined eye-tracking and neurophysiological approach.

According to attachment theory, attachment representations influence emotion regulation (ER) across the lifespan. However, research into attachment-related ER in adolescence is still scarce. The aim of this study was to assess attachment-related ER using a multimodal approach, relying on behavioral and neurophysiological parameters. Attachment styles in eighty-one adolescents were assessed with the Attachment Style Interview (ASI). A distress-then-comfort paradigm based on visual stimuli (the Besancon Affective Picture Set-Adolescents) was employed to "activate" then "deactivate" the attachment system. Gaze and neurophysiological parameters of ER strategies were assessed using eye-tracking …

"Card sorting" : a tool for research in ethics on treatment decision-making at the end of life in Alzheimer patients with a life threatening complication

Abstract Background End stage dementia is a particularly difficult aspect of care for patients with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. In care institutions, caregivers and family are concerned by treatment decision-making for an acute life threatening complication occurring in Alzheimer patients at the end of life. How should the best treatment pathway be decided: to treat or not to treat? Which arguments are used for decision-making? These are mainly ethical questions which are currently difficult to express and investigate. Methods/Design Cross sectional multicentre study of clinical cases involving 67 health centres (university hospitals, general hospitals, local hospitals and ho…
