The abandoned remains of the Gulì textile factory in Palermo stands today as memory, from which it is possible to still read the history, through the spaces and construction techniques used, of an example of absolute innovation for that time. The paper presents the outcomes of a studio research conducted by the University of Palermo, aimed at defining the history and characteristics of the industrial complex. The interdisciplinary planning appraisal and the outcomes obtained are also outlined, in the hope that the current situation can move towards a responsible and informed project for the benefit of the collectivity. The continuous changes of the school need updating, both in the methods and in the consideration of the spaces. At this difficult time the school cannot be limited to traditional physical spaces, mail concept must expand. The paper is a reflection on the need to adapt school buildings, which can not remain static while around really changes everything.
