Heavy flavour production at the LHC: Theoretical Aspects

2008

CERN-DESY workshop on "HERA and the LHC" DESY-PROC-2009-02; ISBN 978-3-935702-32-4; ISSN 1435-8077; International audience; A proper inclusion of heavy quark mass effects in Parton Distribution Function fits has proved crucial. We present a review these effects in DIS and their impact on global analyses and lay out all elements of a properly defined general mass variable flavor number scheme (GM VFNS) that are shared by all modern formulations of the problem. We also report about progress in a number of theoretical problems related to exclusive measurements of heavy flavors. These topics include fragmentation functions for charmed mesons including finite mass effects, fragmentation function…

Introduction and prolonged circulation of G12 rotaviruses in Sicily

2016

SUMMARYGenotype G12 strains are now considered to be the sixth most prevalent human rotaviruses worldwide. In two Sicilian cities, Palermo and Messina, surveillance of rotavirus circulation performed since 1985 and 2009, respectively, did not detect G12 strains until 2012. From 2012 to 2014 rotavirus infection was detected in 29·7% of 1647 stool samples collected from children admitted for acute gastroenteritis to three Sicilian hospitals in Palermo, Messina and Ragusa. In 2012, G12P[8] was first detected in Palermo and then in Messina where it represented the second most frequent genotype (20% prevalence) after G1P[8]. Thereafter, G12 strains continued to circulate in Sicily, showing a mar…

Whatsapp messenger as a tool for the multidisciplinary management in everyday clinical practice

2017

Introduction & Objectives Communication between doctors is traditionally conducted by written clinical charts. Mobile health is becoming an integral part of modern healthcare system, improving accessibility and quality of medical care. Recent papers suggest that an increasing number of doctors are using in their practice mobile tools to communicate clinical informations (1,2). The aim of our study was to verify the adoption of WhatsApp Messenger in everyday clinical practice to obtain a real-time multidisciplinary collaboration among medical centers located in different areas of the city. Material & Methods In January 2016 a WhatsApp Messenger group was created among 25 specialists:…
