Thrombin Generation in Chronic Liver Diseases—A Pilot Study

2021

The knowledge about coagulation disorders in patients with chronic liver disease changed in the last decade. The aim of this study was to analyze the parameters of thrombin generation in patients with chronic liver disease, as they are the most appropriate biomarkers to explore coagulation. (1) Background: The knowledge about coagulation disorders in patients with chronic liver disease changed in the last decade. The study of thrombin generation in patients with chronic liver disease provides a much more accurate assessment of the coagulation cascade

Biomechanical Study of the Osteoporotic Spine Fracture: Optical Approach

2021

Background and objectives: Osteoporotic spine fractures represent a significant factor for decreasing quality of life in the elderly female population. Understanding the mechanisms involved in producing these fractures can improve their prevention and treatment. This study presents a biomechanical method to produce a vertebral fracture, conducted on a human spine segment, observing the displacements and strains in the intervertebral disc, endplate, and vertebral body. Materials and Methods: We performed two tests, one corresponding to an extension loading, and the second to an axial loading. Results: The maximum displacement in the target vertebral body presented higher values in the case o…

Effect of patella resurfacing on functional outcome and revision rate in primary total knee arthroplasty (Review).

2021

Anterior knee pain, as well as patellofemoral disorders, after total knee arthroplasty are important reasons for revision in total knee arthroplasty. Current prosthesis designs include patellar components for patella replacement, and together with improved rational design of the prosthesis and advancement in knee alignment these appear to reduce the incidence of anterior knee pain following total knee replacement, even if the etiology of anterior knee pain remains unclear. However, new complications related to patella resurfacing emerge with this approach. At present, there are three strategies involving patella replacement in total knee arthroplasty: There are surgeons who always replace t…
