Operational Intelligence and School Problems Measured by Piagetian Tasks and Rhode Island Pupil Identification Scale

To explore the relations between operational intelligence rated on several Piagetian tasks and school learning problems identified by the Rhode Island Pupil Identification Scale by Novack, Bonaventura, and Merenda we assumed that Piagetian performances would allow predicting learning problems of first graders. 38 pupils were evaluated by three teachers, who were asked to complete the Rhode Island scale. Then the same children were individually given 8 Piagetian tests (including conservation and logical tasks) by an examiner who had no information about the pupils' other scores. Questo lavoro vuole dare ragione di una esperienza di orientamento che si è sviluppata negli ultimi cinquant’anni a Palermo. Intendiamo riferirci all’iniziativa portata avanti dal Reparto di Orientamento del Servizio Universitario di Medicina Preventiva (SUMP) nato nel 1964 che è diventato più tardi, nel 1979, Servizio di Orientamento Scolastico-Professionale e di Informazione sul Mercato del Lavoro e infine, a partire dalla fine del 1999, Centro Orientamento e Tutorato (COT). A first examination of the structure of the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale in an Italian sample

Work Engagement is defined by Schaufeli and colleagues as a positive, fulfilling work-related state of mind that is characterized by Vigor, Dedication and Absorption. A questionnaire (UWES) was developed in different versions and languages, to be used in organizational contexts. We tried to confirm the factorial structure of the scale (either about the 9 and 17 items’ versions) using responses from an overall sample of 1080 Italian workers. Results confirmed the good structure of the UWES, consistent to Schaufeli’s findings. Concluding, the UWES can be used as a good measure of work engagement in Italian organizational contexts as well.

Objectives. Recent research on volunteering has increased its interest in integrating different theoretical models such as motivational and socio-psychological ones. The current research replicates and extends a Swiss survey (Guntert, 2008) among a sample of Italian volunteers. The aim was to examine the antecedents (mainly in terms of motivational factors and identification) of outcomes such as commitment and engagement towards volunteering. Methods.
