Venous thromboembolism (VTE) comprises deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE). DVT occurs at an incidence of 1/1,000 and risk factors include immobilization, hospitalization, surgery, thrombophilia and positive family history, cancer, pregnancy, and other hormonal effects.
