Early outcomes and complications following cardiac surgery in patients testing positive for coronavirus disease 2019: An international cohort study

2021

The outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndromecoronavirus-2, the cause of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in December 2019 represented a global emergency accounting for more than 2.5 million deaths worldwide.1 It has had an unprecedented influence on cardiac surgery internationally, resulting in cautious delivery of surgery and restructuring of services.2 Understanding the influence of COVID-19 on patients after cardiac surgery is based on assumptions from other surgical specialties and single-center studies. The COVIDSurg Collaborative conducted a multicenter cohort study, including 1128 patients, across 235 hospitals, from 24 countries demonstrating perioperative COVID-19 infection…

Grassland fire effect on soil organic carbon reservoirs in a semiarid environment

2013

Abstract. The aim of this work was to investigate the effect of an experimental fire used for grassland management on soil organic carbon (SOC) stocks. The study was carried out on Hyparrhenia hirta (L.) Stapf (Hh) grassland and Ampelodesmos mauritanicus (Desf.) T. Durand & Schinz (Am) grasslands located in the north of Sicily. Soil samples were collected at 0–5 cm before and after the experimental fire, and SOC was measured. During the grassland fire, soil surface temperature was monitored. Biomass of both grasses was analysed in order to determine dry weight and its chemical composition. The results showed that SOC varied significantly with vegetation type, while it is not affecte…

Disease activity states, reasons for discontinuation and adverse events in 1038 Italian children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis treated with etan…

2017

The advent of biologic medications has increased considerably the potential for treatment benefit in juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA), with clinical remission being now achievable in a substantial proportion of patients. However, there is a need of data from the real world of clinical practice to evaluate thoroughly the efficacy and safety profile of the biologic agents currently approved.

Vadimonium nossale ed exhibitio in eadem causa

2016

The author reconsiders the problem concerning the meaning of the words ' in eadem causa' in the vadimonium ex noxali causa. On the basis of D. 2.9.1.1 (Ulp. 7 ad ed.) and D. 2.9.5 (Ulp. 47 ad Sab.) he tries to point out an historical evolution in the interpretation of these words.

EVALUATION OF THE DISEASE COURSE OF ITALIAN CHILDREN WITH JUVENILE IDIOPATHIC ARTHRITIS TREATED WITH ETANERCEPT: PRELIMINARY RESULTS IN 1019 PATIENTS

2015

Methods: This is a multicenter, observational study that includes all children with JIA who were given ETN at Italian pediatric rheumatology centers after January 2000. Patients were classified in 2 groups: patients who were no longer taking ETN at study start (Group 1); patients who were still receiving ETN at study start (Group 2). Patients in Group 1 underwent only retrospective assessments, whereas patients in Group 2 underwent both retrospective and cross-sectional assessments. The primary outcome of the study were reasons for ETN discontinuation in patients in Group 1, and achievement of the states of inactive disease (ID), minimal disease activity (MDA) and parent- and child-acceptab…
