The Article deals with the role of Biblical person names in The Book of Lamentations by Grigor Narekatsi (1001-1003) in the poetical context, distinguishing two main functions of their use as the text elements: first – the referential or relational function; second – the poetically – esthetical function. This report deals with the semantics of genitive constructions (adnominal genitive) in Matean Voghberguthean as well as with the searches for rendering equivalents in Latvian. It is based on the method of paraphrase with one or more transformations – the propositions described by John Beekman and John Callow in their fundamental work Translating the Word of God. This method helps to clarify syntactical and logical relations in the word groups and to elucidate the meaning of the phrase. In the article two songs of Resurrection by Gregor Narekatsi and the symbolic meaning of „bird” in them are considered. The first song „Havun, havun” (Bird, bird) as periphrase of Song of Songs and the second song „Havik mi paitsar” (Bird descending on the cross stone) with its relation to this symbolic are analysed.
