Sibiu and the urban archaeology. During the last two-three decades the urban archaeology in Transylvania has pointed towards a visible progress. In the cities of Alba Iulia, Bistriţa, Brasov, Baia Mare, Dej, Cluj-Napoca, Lugoj, Orastie, Oradea, Sebes, Sfântu Gheorghe, Sibiu, Sighisoara, Timisoara, Târgu Mures and Turda archaeological investigations were carried out. In Sibiu, the first preemptive archaeological excavation took place in 1970 and focused upon the house and residence of the town's former mayor, Altemberger.
