Pulsatile versus continuous oxytocin infusion for the oxytocin challenge test.
In a prospective study, 140 patients had an oxytocin challenge test with either a continuous or a pulsed infusion (one minute of infusion in every five minutes). Both infusion regimens had similar success rates in terms of uterine contractions (97.1 vs 98.6%). The potency ratio (pulsed versus continuous infusion) was significant at 2.7 (1.27 to 5.2), which means that more uterine activity was induced with each mU of oxytocin with pulsatile than with continuous administration. Edad y paridad de la mujer en el momento del parto
Resumen Se estudian 152.470 partos con feto unico habido sen la maternidad La Fe entre el 1 de enero de 1980 y el 31 de diciembre de 1999. Al clasificarlos segun la paridad de la mujer, se observo que 77.877 (51,1%) eran nuliparas y 74.593 (48,8%) multiparas. Se comparan los partos habidos en este centro entre las fechas indicadas, observando una disminucion progresiva que alcanza significacion entre los valore sextremos. Esta disminucion no se produce de forma uniforme, sino con un aumento relativo de las nuliparas en detrimento de las multiparas, siendo en la actualidad de 51,1 y 48,8%, respectivamente, frente al 46,6 y 56,4%, que eran los valores al inicio del estudio.
