The Republic of Latvia is one of the three Baltic states and a member of the EU. The official language is Latvian (Baltic group of Indo-European family of languages), spoken by approximately 2.3 million people. Several minority languages (Liv, Russian, Polish, Ukrainian, Lithuanian, Belorussian, Romani) are also used in Latvia.
